4.10s swapping

Looking for a definite answer when installing 410s!
I have a brand new differential sitting in the garage along with my new 410's.

Do I need anything else for the swap? Like a rebuild kit even though everything is new? Is everything reusable? What parts are only used once?.......

Or am I ready to go!

RE: 4.10s swapping

you need a rebuild kit buddy, you need new bearings unless you want to damage them by taking them off of the gears in the differential, you also need shims and a cruch sleeve and a spindle bolt with is 36mm by the way. oh and good choice in gears.

RE: 4.10s swapping

You won't need the rebuild kit for the traction lock - you need the installation kit to install gears and differential into your center section. Max from 5 star will set you up. Always replace all bearings and seals(overall they're cheap). Also, the pinion nuts and axle nuts are meant to be used ONCE! Don't forget fluid additive and speedo gear.

RE: 4.10s swapping

I know your not suppossed to but I have reused the crush leave before as well as the nuts.Zero problems.

RE: 4.10s swapping

You will need a press to crush that sleeve. I have yet to do it 100%with a break over bar. It is damned tough to get the rear bolted down to a table, then get the sleeve to begin its initial crush. I get it started with a press then put the finishing touches on it off with the break over bar.

RE: 4.10s swapping

The FMS-M-4210-B installation kit will have what you need. You will still need axle bearings, seals and yes, the 36mm axle nut. FMS does not make a kit for the IRS? I was told from Max at 5 Star Ford the deluxe 'C' kit which includes axle bearings and seals is for the non-IRS Ford 8.8" rear end, i.e. solid axle.

I used a mondo breaker bar with a cheater pipe while a helper held the backup pipewrench on the pinion flange and held the rear down on the shop floor. I'm sure we looked like two monkeys wrestling a greased pig. :p

There is a kit somewhere that comes with a shim collection in place of the crush sleeve. Someone posted about it on the board, I'm sure a search would turn it up.

RE: 4.10s swapping

The install kit number is, M-4210-B this is for 8.8 R&P install kit, I got this number straight from the box that it came in.
Oh and if you need some shims I can mail you the rest I didn't use, I also have a crush sleeve, free to you of course

I almost ordered the deluxe kit  , thanks for the save.

Thanks for the offer Brad, but I'm just going to buy everything.
Ok, lets see if I got this straight

1. FMS-M-4210-B install kit
2. Axle bearings (how many?)
3. Seals (how many?)
4. One 36mm axle nut
5. Speedo gear
6. Lube and additive

Will Max know what I am talking about when I ask for the seals and bearings or will I need to supply him with part#'s

As soon as I get all the parts I will take it to a shop and then I'll be in the Fo'Ten Club

Max will know.

You need two each of axle bearings and seals, one for each half-shaft.

RE: 4.10s swapping

Get the motorsports stud kit also. It's a nice addition. You could get them for around $30 from fivestarford at one time.
