5.0 Big bore or stroker

I just got my junkyard 4.6 block that I'm going to build a supercharged 5.0 with. I had planned to go the big bore route because it allows for higher rpms, better filling of the cylinder, and it unshrowds the valves more. However, when I talked to Houston Performance about getting the engine built, they said they would only feel comfortable going with a stroker kit on a supercharged car. They said that there could be some head gasket sealing problems on a big bore with the higher gas pressures from the supercharger. They had never built a forced induction big bore before, so they didn't want to do it on a customer car until they had tested it out.

Does anybody know of anyone running a supercharged big bore, and did they run into any problems. Houston Performance is really cool being honest and cautious, but I really wanted to go big bore. Anybody know any shops that would try this?

RE: 5.0 Big bore or stroker

I got the same type of answers especially with an aluminum block. SHM was willing and also gets a premimum price.

Only use the brakes to stop and get gas.

RE: 5.0 Big bore or stroker

Houston Performance is a reputable place. If it were me I would go with the big bore. Hensler Racing has built a ton of big bores with NOS and SC's. He uses the 94mm cometic head gaskets and has not had a problem yet. I do admit after looking at a BB that there is not meat left there. It would make me nervous too, but many people have done it and are glad that they did. YOu will make more power over a BB than a stroker due ot the unshrouding of the intake valves. Fox lake has seen a 25 cfm gain from going with a 3.54 to a 3.7" bore on the flow bench, and no otehr changes.

I would go the BB route, or both(5.3L; 4.6 BB/stroker). I think it was VTengines or X2C Motorsport that made 800 rwhp with jsut 10psi opposed to the 600rwhp it made with the stock configuration. They do have the heads O-ringed and running copper gaskets, but will be running 30+psi on this engine, looking for 1600-1900hp.

Andy up in columbus jsut got his Hensler built 5.3 running. He is going to get some more mile on it and tune it again. It already made 400rwhp+ when he pegged the MAF. By the time he is finished with it, I see him making 460-480rwhp n/a.

Still out of the states. I should be back in a week. I will call Cory and ROn asap and we will go from there. I forsee my taking the engine out and taking it to them. I think it is a lifter/s. Sometimes I wonder what some of those guys say on corral. None-the-less she will get a complete check up. Might have the valves lapped while they have it apart.

I was sorry to hear about it. I hope it works out for the best.
P.S. I need your shipping address again.
