did anyone watch the 57 plymouth that was buried 50 years ago get dug up tonight? what a rotten shame. brand new car buried in the ground 50 years ago wrapped and stuck in a concrete vault and put in the ground under the side walk in front of the town hall. i really thought the car would be in somewhat bad shape, but bad cant describe what they pulled out, omg it was trashed. boyd coddington was there for the unveiling. for anyone who didnt catch it check it out on tulsa's local station

it was pretty cool to watch even if it was a rotten heap!!

didn't show the car, read it wasn't too bad, I'd like to see the unveiling, I owned a 60, BIG fins called her the "gray ghost" flat packed the mail.

Boy does that suck that it is so bad. I wonder if they will try to restore it. I just look to my right on a shelf I have a 57 Plymouth Belvedere 1/18th sitting there. That was a great looking car. We have lost many of them to the Christine Movie popularity of the 58's. Many people use a 2door 57 or 58 belvedere to make a Christine look alike. The process usually leaves the car far from original factory condition.

they are not restoring it, boyd was there to see if the car would run, but before the unveiling he had gotten the hood open earlier in the day and said no way in hell, the motor is all rust. they are leaving it exactly the way it is but....
back when they buried it, they let people from tulsa take wild guess's on how many people would populate tulsa in the year 2007, they put their guess on an index card with their info, so now they are going to read all of them, who ever comes closest to the amount of people who do live in tulsa now in 2007, will get the car free and clear, but not all the contents that were in the car, just the car, honestly, i wouldnt want it now, its complete junk, its only historic, that may be priceless, or it might not, depends on who you are, i bet whoever does win the car puts it right on ebay. its way paste the restoring point, unless you want to basically rebuild the entire car from frame up with all new parts, and then, it wouldnt be the same car, or you can take it home, close the garage and be like Arnie...
Ok....... Show Me:

Burn it. It's a public health hazard. That flooded vault had to be a toxic stew of mould, mildew and bacteria, just look at the interior.

Seriously.

I got an idea.....what about some sort of chemical bath that removes rust and crap? A couple of douses in that and see what kinda condition its in after that. Don't even take it apart...all the electrical/interior pieces are far gone, but instead salvage whatever metal pieces are still good. I imagine an untouched hood or something would be worth a bit.

I think the rust is the only thing holding it together, if you remove it you may not have a car.

What a shame that that vault was not truly sealed. From the original film in 1957, it looked like they took precautions to make the car last 50 years in well preserved condition. I guess they they did not take into consideration that a small leak of water over 50 years would cause a lot of damage. Some drainage in the floor would have prevented that.

I was really expecting to see the Plymouth be pulled up in fairly pristine condition. I was even considering a trip to Tulsa for the unveiling.
