5K stall + Vortech gen 2

I thought the stall speed for best performance was about 500 rpms below peak torque...which would be 4000 rpms on our cars.

Was this wrong?

Yeah, I was just being a smart-alick.

:lol3:

Must be nice to be able to do that somewhere. This guy would be pulled over in about 10 min and towed to an impound yard here. Then the cali Smog Nazis were going to pick the entire car apart.

Lol...they don't "need" the Smog Nazi's anymore...the CHP is training the officers to be able to "spot" out the illegal smog stuff. I'll be specifically hunting Rice :D

If you just make sure all of your stuff has a CARB number stamped on it, you're fine.

I believe both the Vortech and the KB for our cars have CARB numbers...so do a number of turbos.

There are no "california" legal superchargers/turbos for our cars.

This is my car. The 5k converter is the best thing I ever did to my car and I drove this car to my local race track 60 miles each way and my trans temperature stays at 150-170F.

Well you need to check the complete list here... as you can tell there is almost no information on the Mark VIII most ending in 1996...

http://www.arb.ca.gov/msprog/aftermkt/devices/aftermktdevice.php

A few examples below...not a comprehensive list.

When speaking to these manufacturers, I specifically asked them, "...your unit will be CA legal in my 96 Lincoln Mark VIII?" They both responded with an adamant YES. KB is located in Cali, so they would definitely know.

I can tell you though that the list on that site is not complete. I know of some other units that are not on that list.

Yep those are the ones I was talking about... It is always hard having a rare car and finding aftermarket parts.

modifications made to the intake air ducting.

That alone would make it illegal. :D Unless they provide proper(and CARB #'d) air intake ducting, modifying the STOCK intake tube(after the MAF only) is NOT smog legal. Removing the air silencers on a Gen 1....NOT smog legal. Haha, damn SMOG rules.

Crap I guess the 96 Mark VIII is illegal now too...
