93 Mark 8 Fuel Pump Replacement?

RE: 93 Mark 8 Fuel Pump Replacement?

When my first fuel pump died, it happened at 150,000 miles while I was 100 miles from home at the dragstrip.

Since I was 100 miles from, towing the car was prohibitivley expensive because I'm "broke and poor".

So, I purchased a 255liter Walboro fuel pump from www.50resto.com for 109.00 and drove back out to the track and proceeded to change the pump myself.

4 hours later it was running.

4 hours labor for someone that had never dropped a mark 8 fuel tank, working with handtools and without the benefit of having the car on a lift.

Do you have 4 hours to spare?

IMHO 4 hours of your time would be better than losing 800.00!!!

If I were closer to you, or vice versa.. I'd just come over and show you how "NOT DIFFICULT" this job really is.

Dont be afraid...EXPERIENCE is the best teacher.

Ain’t that the truth. True story: My starter on my Lexus LS400 just went out last week out of the blue. The first EVER problem I had since I bought the car. Problem is, the starter is buried between the intake manifold, and the block.

I'm not a mechanic. Heck, I don’t even have proper tools, yet, I didn’t like the sound of it costing me $1120+ at the stealership, and working on my car is something of a hobby to me.

So I just decided to read my shop manuals, and pull my sleeves up, and proceed forth, and now i'm half way through the job.

Moral of the story, give it a try, and don’t change those LINES!!!

Here is a pic of current progress:

Doesn't the starter alone cost $300-$400 on those things? I hear it is a common problem on Lexus cars.

Not sure about a brand new one, but a factory reman is about $250, $215 if you know where to look, but I’m sure the local stealer charges $350+ for them. However, I don’t need to replace the starter, just the two copper contacts that wear out over time, thus breaking the circuit. Usually the issue 99% of them time with Toyota starters.

These contacts wear out over time, which I’m perfectly fine with. However, I’m not cool with the location of the starter.

Thankfully, Toyota sells a starter repair kit for $12, a Lexus dealer however, would deny their existence.

Like the one below, after years of wear, its engraved, and no longer provides a connection between the positive and negative battery terminals when in contact with the plunger.
