'93 Mark VIII Odd Noise/Vibration

Hello!

I am glad to have finally found this great forum. I have owned a red '93 Lincoln Mark VIII for nearly 2 years, (sadly I had my first accident in as well). At any rate over the past few months I have noticed this really odd vibration coming from what feels like directly below or in back of me while driving. It happens just about anytime the car shifts into a different gear but mostly in city driving at around 30-50mph. What the devil is this? It completely bothers me and the people in my beautiful mobile!

When was the transmission last serviced?

You need Mercon V tranny fluid and a complete transmission flush every 30k miles, NO SUBSTITUES.

Not to long ago...

I had all of my tires changed about 5 months ago and maybe that was about the time this started? Could a problem like this really be related to somekind of in balance? A few people that have been in my car have suggested u-joint's but I dont really know if that would be the problem either

It's kind of a sudden (loud) vibration at almost every gear up to 60mph.. again mostly if only in city conditions..

Thanks again for your quick response!

Noises and vibrations are difficult to diagnose over the internet.

But you may be right on the tires. These cars are very sensitive to wheel imbalance.

The u-joints are a possibility as the later year models were redesigned with a two-piece driveshaft that is problematic as well for vibrations. Being a '93, you have a good chance of having a single piece design which by most counts is superior.

Review the technical pages from the home page for more information.

Oh, and WELCOME! :)

I am going to take it in to where I had the tires put on and have them check it over. I'll be sure to report back my findings incase it might help anyone else ever!

Problem Report:

After getting the tires checked, it was indeed another problem. Turned out to be I needed the transmission fluid flushed, and a new filter put on. Good bye annoying vibrations that came from the rear and front of the car!

Congrats! Things that typically go and cause vibes: U-joints, loose bushings including rear sway, differential, trans mounts, motor mounts, crappy tires/balance. If you have high mileage, check the rear CV Joints. good luck!
