My 93 has been starting alittle harder on first starts lately, it has rain every day for 10 days.I thought maybe spark plug wires were getting wet , now it wont start at all ,the wires are 5 yrs old 150000 on them could that be the problem ? Where do I get wires other then the dealership in ontario canada? If not hte wires what then? where do I start fuel ? ignition? fuses? ANY IDEAS

RE: 93 wont start wiring wet???????

If you take a look in the engine compartment you should be able to see that it's quite unlikely that RAIN is getting your plug wires wet.

Hard Starts are USUALLY a product of a failing or failed Crank Position Sensor or Cam Sensor.

Crank sensor usually creates a "no start" issue.
Cam sensor usually creates a "hard start" issue.
Before tackling those two sensors I'd suggest changing your spark plugs and fuel filter, because 40.00 in parts might solve the problem.

If not.. the crank sensor is 30.00 and the cam sensor is 12-15.00
About an hour labor on the crank sensor and about a half hour labor on the Cam sensor.

But first.. spend an hour labor and 40.00 on plugs and fuel filter.

While that may be true, high humidity will cause failing plug wires to be a starting problem. Been there, done that.

Ok, then you suggest that he spend 90.00 on plug wires FIRST?

I'd still say.. PLUGS, Fuel filter and sensors could all be covered for that 90.00.

I live in a very high humidty location and over the course of a combine 500,000+ miles on Tiffs and my car, I'd never seen Plug wires fix anything except a rough idle, or stumble on high load.

Hard Start? maybe.. but I still think you could cover alot more "probable" items before chunking 90.00 on wires.

IMHO

Not necessarily. A clue could be no start or hard starting on early damp mornings but later in the day with warmer, dryer air, it fires right up.

I suspect with original plug wires at 150K, the plugs and fuel filter probably are suspect as well. Maybe even just a battery terminal issue. ::roll::

RE: 93 wont start wiring wet???????

towed it home now to figure out why it wont start. It has 280 kms on car, second set of wires ,150 000 kms on last set. It is either fuel or ignition causing no start,Where do I start I have a code reader I will try that first , Then check to see if fuel is been pumped to engine any one knoe how to test the fuel system? The car has been running great till this Any advice?????????

On the driver's side, underneath the beauty cover, on the fuel rail, is a schrader valve(like a tire valve) to check for fuel. Remove the cap. Wear eye protection and using a rag over the valve, depress the small stem to check for presence of fuel pressure.

If they have 150k on them, it's not a bad idea. I put off plug wires on my '94 for as long as possible. Sure enough, one failed right at the beginning of a 65 mile trip home, after a school term, when i was flat broke and had everything i owned in my car. I was driving around for a couple days with a miss, and it sucked. And that was right around 150k miles.

And water does get in the rear two plug holes, unless you have a perfect seal at the rear of the hood, which you don't have at 150k. I don't think that would cause the car to fail to start, but many of us have had a miss or an intermittant miss after washing the car or after heavy rains due to water getting in those back two holes.

RE: 93 wont start wiring wet???????

NO fuel coming out of the relief valve on fuel rail even with ignition is on, it must be the fuel pump . Is there a fuse for the fuel pump or some sort of relay that could not be working ???? how do test fuel system???
??

RE: 93 wont start wiring wet???????

my code reader gave code 542 fuel pump secondary circuit fault, any info on what this might mean??
