96 suspension problem

I'm looking to buy a 96 mark viii. The only hesitation from me buying it, is the car is slammed to the ground and rides like that. He said that he had taken the dryer off of the airbag because it was clogged? does this sound right, both the front and rear of the car are low. He said that the dryer is located by the right front fender where all the airlines meet each other, its there where he took off this dryer part, which caused the car to lower. also said its 110 dollar part to fix? i think there is more involved to getting back to ride height, any help to a hopefully a proud owner of a mark.. Thanks in advance,

Joe

All makes sense, but dont drive it like that very far. $80 is dealer retail for new.... I think I may be able to find then for $30 new.....

With that said, it will be a temporary fix most likely. If the drier got that bad, the compressor is probably done for. You can get a reman compressor WITH drier for cheap.

The dryer can be dissassembled, cleaned and dried out. The silica beads can be dried in the oven at low heat on a peice of foil.

Without the dryer installed, you won't know if the airsprings and the compressor are any good.

I just recieved a re man comp and drier from american. All is well with my ride now, and they were great. Very helpfull with questions, and the motor hooked right up and works great. About the same price people on e bay wanted for a used one.

Well i bought a compressor, air struts and bags from american air.

I have installed the compressor, but i can't tell if its actually engaging.

Has anyone else bought one of these compressors and you can hear it work, or is it really this quiet. Sounds like its not even on. My 94 use to make noise when the compressor engaged and disengaged.

I read about a relay and fuse that could be bad?

I located the fuse and it is still good, but i can't determine which relay goes to the suspension. also i tripled check my connections at the compressor.

thanks for any help..

From what I've read, even a new compressor can be heard operating.

Great, new compressor and nothing working, i need to find this relay for the suspension. any ideas which one it is?

The relay is inside the passenger side fender above where the compessor is mounted.

There is also a 50A fuse in the engine compartment fuse box.

That is awesome, i have check the fuse and it is okay. The relay, somebody said can be switched out with the abs relay to check it. Where is the abs relay located at? thanks

The abs relay is located inside the drivers side fenderwell, similar to the compressor relay.

Well, i tried it tonight, car was running and the air ride switch on and no compressor running, all connections are tight.

Would that relay stop the power going to the compressor?

is that the exact name?

fastpartsnetwork would have it? thanks for the help..

I think he is on vacation... i haven't been able to reach him for a week or so. I found what i believe to be the relay on fordpartswebsite, for 45.61.

but if this relay is bad, would it stop power going to the compressor?

thanks

no one on here has mentioned that you could have a bad air suspension module also, or someone could have unplugged it. it is located inside the dash to the right of the glove box. open the glove box all the way down and look behind and to the right, its a black box about 4"x6" with 2 plugs going into the bottom of it. this is the brain for the air suspension. if its bad, you can change out the compressor 300 times it still wont work!

I have yet to hear of an air suspension module failing... but someone could have unplugged it and these cars are always getting older.

i have sold a dozen in the past 7 years to people including ford dealers who have all come down to the module being bad, a dozen in 7 years isnt crap, but theres roughly 12 you just heard of going bad max!!!!
