Has anyone bought the replacement headlamp assembly kit from Ford? My question is only out of curiosity as I just had to replace a bulb in my Mark and I asked at the dearership and was informed that Ford had a replacement kit for the Gen II Mark, but not for the Gen I Marks. As I had been thinking about picking up a Gen II. I asked the price and almost fell over when the parts girl told me the Kit cost $2,300.00! That sure seemed like a lot of money to replace a high quality set of bulbs with bulbs that are of a lesser quality. I'm glad I figured out how to upgrade to the more common HID systems available on that auction site. Then I started looking here and found that I was a bit behind the curve in this matter.
I bought my HIDs from Dennis Reinhart back in '98 for my '94 and they have worked great. I was just starting to worry about the bulbs a few months ago and started researching a little and then just before Christmas a bulb went bad. I found that I could buy a kit from that auction site and with some work make it function just fine, as others here have found. Then I got lucky and a '98 Mark showed up at my local pick a part and I grabbed the lights from it and used the OEM bulb in my Mark and now I have the spare kit for just in case...
If anyone needs or wants to buy the kit from Ford the part number is; 7R9Z-1300-8 and for only $2,300.00 they can buy the kit. I said no thanks, I'll stick to the other systems from that auction site.
