97 Mark lost 3rd gear completely

OK.....

Now that I have fixed the 3-4 shift on my blue 97 mk8...I am wondering if its worth dropping the valve body and shift accumulators on my other 97 mark that has lost 3rd and 4th gear completely?

This car has 140K miles and recently it started to not go into 3rd or 4th gear at all....it just "neutrals out", and it also makes a "wheel of fortune" clicking noise.

Could this possibly be a broken accumulator spring or fubared accumulator piston?

Also what about the neutral safety switch on the side of the tranny? If it were fubared.....could it make this clicking noise from the tranny?

When you drop the valve body.....what are those other two large disc shape deals that remain up in the tranny, and what is behind them?

I know nothing about the transmission, but was looking at this site earlier today and there is an FAQ section for transmission problems. This would fit your symptoms:

Yeah....

Since mine is making a weird clicking noise, I think its probably toast!

Now I need to decide.....either part it out, keep it around for spare parts to my other 97 mark, get a 98 or newer tranny and install it, or sell the whole thing as is.
