97 MarkVIII Headlights

When I bought my car, the drivers side headlight seemed to leak anytime it rained, and then get foggy for a while until the water dried up. So last week I called Max and ordered a new headlight. I went to install the new headlight assembly, and the wires for the low beam have a different connector than the factory connector. On top of this, I can't seem to get the factory connector to come apart. From reading the service manual, I am getting the feeling that they want you to replace the ballast when you replace one of the headlamps. I just can't see why you would have to replace the ballast. Anyone ever run into this same problem? Do I need to call Max and have him send me a different connector or what? I did notice that the part numbers are slightly different on the new and old headlamp assembly. The new one has a "C" at the end, and the old one has an "A" at the end.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

yep. they want you to replace the ballast too. those connectors aren't made to come apart, as far as i can tell. just cut and splice.

Thanks for the swift responses. I will cut and splice it tomorrow evening. I was just a little worried about cutting into the wires of a light assembly that I spent almost $300 on. =)

Never done that before. But I heard a lot of first Gen owners preheating their assembly's in the over and opening them up.

thanks i'll have to try something in the next month or so. it's finally starting to get warm out here in the cleveland area so I can spend some well deserved time with the MARK. if I screw up the ass'y i'll just have to buy a new one, but i figure it might be worth a try>
