'97 town car

I have been offered a '97 town car at reasonable price ( by Englist standards) .

It had the boxy back end as opposed to the newer rounded rear.

I am a confirmed Lincoln nut and there are very few of us ENglishmen who say that . It is all Chevy over here !!!.

The car is good order at 75000 miles.

Owner tells me oil changed every 5000 but not due it's first real service until 100,000 miles. I service all my Lincolns but up to now have just had cars where you can see all the bits and no special tools needed.

Can you please help with

1. Can I serivce myself
2. Is the 100K mile service very expensive !!!!
3. Is thsi a usable every day car and relaible. - seems alwful lot of computer kit in there
4. DO owners of these cars rate them .

Many thanks

Paul

RE: '97 town car

the car has an air suspension which will eventually cause you a problem. It's easy to take care of on the marks, and i assume it's also easy on the town car, but i don't know. Other than that, it should be a good reliable car. It has a SOHC 4.6, right? Those engines are good for 200,000 miles easy if maintained properly (change oil every 3k). Make sure the tranny fluid looks good, though, i assume that town cars have the same tranny problems as other fords of the same year.

100k mile service should be plugs, wires (if it has them), diff fluid, tranny fluid (if it hasn't been changed within 20k), and put it on a lift and make sure the suspension is all tight and greased. You should be able to do most of it yourself.
