98' Lsc Jbl Amp

I might need a new factory amp for my 98' LSC ith JBL Thed drivers door tweeter wont work, and although I had originally thought it was the tweeter itself ( I havent pulled the door panel yet to check) everyone is now telling me it's probably not the speaker at all but the amp. UGH! Does anyone think this is plausible? And if so, how do I get a replacement amp?

I had that problem years ago. I unplugged the speaker wires from the amp and plugged them back in. That worked for a while but I would have to do this every once in a while. Finally, I disconnected one of the clips that held the wires near the plug. It seemed like it was too tight. I haven't had that problem since.

I'd try unplugging and plugging them back in and see if that helps. The speaker plugs are the 2 larger plugs near the ends of the amp.

The tray holding the amp (in the trunk) is easy to lower. There are some clips on the bottom of the tray near the drivers side (and maybe a little towards the center). Remove all the clips and pull the tray down on the driver's side. It's hinged on the passenger's side.

Hey Bill.....

Hey Bill.....

I just tried the amp thing you recommended. Unfortunately, it did not work. I know that I found the right plug though, cuz the other driver's door speaker went out too. It is just strange to me that only 1 of 8 speakers would go out. You would think that at least the 2 in the same door would, were it a wire harness / amp issue. I just bought 8 new JL audio speakers, so I hope this issue can be resolved because it would suck if 1 of my new speakers wont play. I'm gonna try to pull the door panel now to see if it is the speaker itself or the connection in the door. If you have any other ideas I would love to hear them. Also, do you (or anyone) know the colors of the 16? speaker wires and to which speaker they go? That would be an enormous help should I need to:eek:... REWIRE... this whole thing. Thanks for your time and concern. Long Live Lincolns!

Speaker Problem Resolved.....

Speaker Problem Resolved.....

Well, I took the door panel off (much easier than I thought it would be) and lo and behold the connection to the tweeter was disconnected. I plugged it back in and everything worked. I just never thought it would be that since I am only the 2nd owner of this 42K car. The previous owner is now 91, so I never imagined she'd have the door pannel off messing with stuff. I think it's more likely that it was never connected in the factory cuz theres no was that super tight connector would come apart on its own. Anyway, thanks for the advice.:big-grin:

it wouldnt have left the factory not working, thats where QC's check it out, i'll put money on the fact that somewhere in the short miles she drove it, the driverside door handle broke, someone replaced it and forgot to plug the tweeter back in. you cant imagine how many times i have had customers come to me for non working tweeters, all it ever turns out to be is unplugged!
