I have the chance to get a KILLER 1999 Mustang cobra motor trans and harnes everything to get it running (rear end hit interior fire motor still runs and drives). Its got a 6 speed tranny but I'm going to put my AOD behind it. my transmission guy says no prob. How much difference is there between the mark VIII ECC and the mustang cobra? what probs am I going to have with like the lights and supension and the instument cluster thats what im worried about right now. I want this motor REALLY BAD in my car. its Dyno'd at 460 / 480 yea yea i know i'll need final drive upgrades (tranny, half shafts rearend driveshaft upgrades) and I know the exhaust will be totally custom. But the ECC is my only show stoper concern (I aint worried about PATS either.)

I would take the engine and put the mark VII harness on it. That cobra harness will need a lot of modifications done to it to make it work. For example the main engine harness plugs in on the passenger side of the car on a cobra, where as out plugs in on the drivers side. You would also need to use the oil pan out of your mark VIII, the oil adapter, and get a 8 bolt flywheel out of a F150, jsut to name a couple of things.,..

Oil pan?!? because of the K member? hmm oiling system added to the list to investigate. On the 97 Mark the main firewall harnes is on the driverside. the flywheel and that type stuff will be up to the transmission guy. he works magic like that. Any more "off the top of your head" thing you can think of. any and all help will be taken.

Use the mark VIII harness. Trust me it will be a lot easier. You will have might have to extend some wires. Might have to get a chip to delete the IMRC's, ect. YOu will also have to get a mark VIII oil pickup tube as well as the oilapn. You will have to use the exhaust maniffolds off of you mark VIII engine, ect. You WILL have to order a flywheel from an F150. No way around it. Other than that, it will be a simple thing to do. SHould take about 2 days to swap. All you acc and stuff will bolt right onto that block with no problems at all.

You TB, and Cruise control cable should reach just fine. Everything else is jsut wires that can be legthned.

I'm going with headers for exhaust. yea thats going to be a custom job.what about gauges are the mark VIII's just slave to the ECM? what about supension and the speed controled lowering is that seperate from the ecm and stupid stuff like lights?

RE: 99 Cobra motor in a Mark III Q's

if you use the mark VIII harness you will not have any problems with any of that stuff..

Phreakness, one of my good friends is looking to get a T-56 six speed for his mustang, I was wondering if you'd be interested in selling it,(if you did purchase the motor & trans.) and how much you would be willing to let it go for. Thanks

RE: 99 Cobra motor in a Mark III Q's

either way, you still have to do a tune to to eec. the cobra's is programed for a 6 speed and the mark is for a auto.

RE: 99 Cobra motor in a Mark III Q's

I think since both are an ECC-V setup I think it should be "fairly" easy from the research that i've done so far. I have no problem jumping in to that kinda of stuff with both feet.

RE: 99 Cobra motor in a Mark III Q's

If my guy come through with the deal for the engine and tranny sure I'll sell it to him (I have the slightest idea how much they go for.) I wont need it and my tranny guy doesnt really want it.

RE: 99 Cobra motor in a Mark III Q's

Good to hear, I will check with my friend to see how much he is willing to pay for it..... I was wondering if you could check to see how much it would cost to ship it to Lincoln, RI 02865?? Or if it is close enough, we could pick it up. Mileage on the tranny?? Either way, good luck with your motor swap, you shouldn't have too much of a problem.

RE: 99 Cobra motor in a Mark III Q's

the motor and tranny have about 200 miles ( I helped him put it in) he's got into a little be of troble with the GF and her dad(and lot of problems in about 9 months) so he has to get rid of his new motor. He's trying to find a place to swap his old 6 banger auto and get me his motor. but I might be working on a deal for a 03 Cobra motor also if so i'lll take the 99 and sell it cheap and get the 03 motor for the mark THAT would be killer!
