Ok.. I hope you all can put your feelings about the "other" Mark VIII site aside, and look into this for me.

There is a "newbie" on the other site that purchased a Mark VIII here in America while he was still over in Iraq. He has returned home now, but the transport company that took his deposit, has refused to ship the car for him. They took his money, but changed their mind, and wont give his deposit back. I remember reading his posts that he wrote while still in Iraq, about how he was looking forward to getting his Mark VIII when he got home.

This issue has become a popular topic on the other board, and there are alot of fellow Mark VIII, and fellow Americans that are jumping on the band-wagon to help this soldier out.

If anyone here is interested in helping one of our own, here are the links to the threads on the other board. The name and phone number of the transport company is listed.

Thank you for reading. I hope I havent broken any rules, or rubbed anyone the wrong way. I think this situation goes WAY beyond any web-site wars. We are talking about a Soldier in the U.S. Military who got screwed while he was fighting the war on terror for our country. Thats YOU and ME folks!!!

Needless to say, I'm in! That is a bunch of BS!

It is not against the rules here to make links, even to competing sites. We have nothing to fear or to hide.

It also part of our club spirit to help people.

Tell us how this situation resolves.

Well, judging by the amount of "hits" and responses here... Its pretty obvious that folks care more about old refridgerators than helping this soldier out. Thanks anyway gang.

My, that's rather harsh. I did read, and I even read the posts on the other site, someplace I don't really like to go, as I hate to see anyone taken advantage of, especially a serviceman, but to be honest, I don't know what I can do to help.

Of course it's a horrible thing to have happen. If there's something in particular that I can do, I would be more than happy to, but it sounded like you guys had it pretty well handled, and I truthfully was hoping to get updates on any kind of a resolution soon.

I didn't post before because I had nothing of value to add to the topic, but I sincerely don't like being accused of not caring just because I'm quiet.

I signed up for Stanley's "we 8 there" but I never posted, I just don't always post every time I do something. Just cause some are not as vocal as others, doesn't mean they don't care.

RE: A fellow Mark VIII owner/American soldier needs our

Not true Craig I posted this message on the other site yesterday since there are so many different post regarding this incident. The story is beginning to get a little convoluted due to shear amout of responses this post was probably overlooked....

"Here is the information I need It may have already been mentioned but I need it stated in one thread include the full name of the Victim the town he is located currently... what is the status of the auto right now(has it been shipped)....If all you want is the money returned how much and the company at fault if you like email it to me at sroberts@we8there.com"

RE: A fellow Mark VIII owner/American soldier needs our

Trixie, Stanley... its working! (oldest trick in the book) Make it personal, and suddenly you get action. Funny how NOW I am getting responses isnt it?

Trixie... I totally agree.... I was mostly making comments about how many "views" the whole thread was getting. But I would never blame anyone for being silent. I also feel that there may be others out there trying to help, and just not writing about there efforts. I was just shocked that only 75 people had even read the post... compared to some of the other "not so important" topics.. thats all. People sure seem to be able to respond to other topics, but this one, they have NO OPINION??? Thanks for writing though. Its starting to work.

Stanley... I'm going to email the info.

RE: A fellow Mark VIII owner/American soldier needs our

If you recall - this is the board that came together and raised $10,000 to help out an LOD member's family after his sudden death.

So I wouldn't jump to the conclusion that we are not a compassionate bunch.

Rather than use money to call the transport company, wouldn't it be easier to just raise the $145 dollars among the members of the "other" web site and present the guy with a check?

RE: A fellow Mark VIII owner/American soldier needs our

RE: A fellow Mark VIII owner/American soldier needs our

At the risk of sounding crass and insensitive which I am not... All of this banter for an alleged $200 lost deposit? Did anyone bother to check with the transport company to get their side? Transport cos. are known for their unreliability so it is the repsonsibility of the client to fully check them out and be sure they are using a reputable firm. I feel bad for him that he might have lost his deposit but he didn't loose his car, or his life, or his life savings!

Why should the LOD be embarrassed into taking on this responsibility? What exactly is the LOD supposed to do about this? If it is suddenly our responsibility to help this man out then I also would like some help recouping the $225 I lost on a bad ebay transaction a couple of yrs. ago. Also, the gentleman in question has been informed of our existence, has anyone seen him here yet?

I feel bad for him but he will recover, chalk it up to one of life's many lessons learned. He should contact the BBB and file a report as well as file a complaint with the local Police.

RE: A fellow Mark VIII owner/American soldier needs our

RE: A fellow Mark VIII owner/American soldier needs our

Craig,

There's three sides to every story, and as Joel pointed out on the other board, we've only heard part of Jpasley's story.

And what, exactly, has he told us?

- He's shipping a car from MA to OK.

- The first shipper he hired was Auto Shipping Co. of CA.

- He paid a deposit of $145.00, by check.

- Auto Shipping Co. cashed the check on 11/9.

- Auto Shipping Co. kept telling him they would pick the car up but that "ended up never happening."

- "There was a written agreement with the company. also a lot of broken promises." We do not know the contents of the written agreement. For example, was the deposit clearly indicated as nonrefundable?

- On 12/15, he hired a second shipper (Chip's Transport / MA) who picked up his car on 12/16.

- As of today, Jpasley has not received his car from the second shipper, Chip's Transport.

So. Jonell is attempting to get a refund on his $145.00 deposit that he paid to the first shipper. Without seeing a copy of the written agreement, we don't have a clue as to the refundability of the deposit. And if the deposit is refundable, what are the exact terms of its refundability (fault of shipper only? how many days must pass? etc.)?

Valued and respected member of the US military or not, common sense dictates that people shouldn't meddle in this affair until they know the entire story.

Like Alexander wrote, keep us updated on how the situation resolves.

RE: A fellow Mark VIII owner/American soldier needs our

Let me just say this, I am a very active member here on this board, yet I never expect the LOD to pay me a dime due to a mistake of my own, or a fault of another. Is this even life threatening like Leo was saying??? All this fuss and nuss over $145? I dunno know about you friend, but I know people with much bigger problems then a lost deposit.

I don’t even understand why this became such an issue? I’m getting charged extra this month for my cell phones bill, but do you hear me asking for money? and even if I did, I wouldn’t flip up and start accusing everyone of being indecent for not helping me. Lets watch what we say, and come back the harsh truth of reality. All you asked for was support, and we wouldn’t mind expressing our opinions by sending them emails telling them we are going to stop using your shipping carrier due to this incident, but for you to start point fingers, and blame members on a busy Saturday for not jumping on it is illogical.

RE: A fellow Mark VIII owner/American soldier needs our

RE: A fellow Mark VIII owner/American soldier needs our

Consider this a FORMAL APOLOGY to all members of the LOD community. I will admit my fault, while attempting to defend my actions.

My whole "point" was to simply point out the fact that a member of our community was being taken advantage of, as a consumer. I wanted to point this fact out to anyone/everyone who may have suggestions as to what he can do. I will admit that the person I am speaking of made a gross error in judgement. I cannot defend him on that issue. I can only try to help him, knowing full well that he made an error, and a company was capitalizing on his error.

I became disturbed when I noticed that not very many people even READ my post. And those that did(approx 75, when this really got heated up), only 3 had responded. This was the disturbing issue for me. If you re-read my original post, try to understand, I was only asking for "assistance" not money. Also read the first two responses. I thought my post was being accepted as a plea for aid, not money. My third post in this topic was mostly sarcasm(always gets me in trouble).

This board is active during most hours of the day, and the fact that not many members cared to read the post is what disturbed me.

I am very passionate when it comes to America's armed forces, and its members. If I can do anything to "pay them back", you can bet your bottom dollar I will.

I will cease discussion on this matter, and continue with my apology.
My passion for the rights of consumers(especially an American Soldier) went into over-drive, and it clouded my judgement when it came to the words I chose to project that.

I am a proud member of the LOD, and I have made quite a few "friends" here. I want to continue to do so in the future. It is the mere "strength" of people's relationships on this forum that makes me proud to be a member. This whole community seems to have a general "heart" for others, and that has been displayed over and over again, on a daily basis. That is why we all come here. It is a social place that provides not only assistence, but friendship. That is why I turned to you all. Due to my poor choice of words, it appeared as if I was turning against you all. I assure you, I am not. I was asking for your help, and I went about it in the wrong way.

I hope you can all accept my apology, and try to understand why I said the things I said.

Thank you.

I will keep you all apprized of Johnell Pasley's situation. I can assure you all that can be done, is being done. Mostly a slap upside his head for making such a mistake.

p.s. I would never ask for, or expect anyone here to give another member money. For anything. I am fully aware of the raffle that was held to assist a fellow LOD member's widow in her time of need.(nobel prize material!) Should anything that dire ever arise again, I will be glad to ask..."what can I do to help?"

Thanks for your time.

Craig - if half the members here had half the energy and good intentions you have, we might be well on our way to solving the world's problems. :) You should figure out how to bottle that stuff - you'd be rich!

Craig,

I don't accept your apology. I don't feel you need to apologize for having a point of view or voicing your feelings, especially about something you take to heart. Please, don't ever, ever apologize for the way you feel. Ever. I'm real big on everyone having their own opinion, no matter wether I agree with it or not (the bit about "war on terrorism" and "in Iraq" made me laugh! :) ). No apology needed. You spout off anytime you feel like it, and I'll listen (and maybe critique it). Just don't apologize. Cheers....

I don't think there's a damn thing funny about "in Iraq, or the war on terroism".

And what I have read on this site, when compared to the efforts of others to help {not raise money} is enough to piss off the Pope.

There are certain people on this site, and they know who they are, that could care less if someone who has been in Iraq, or Afghanistan, or wherever, defending the American goals of democracy for all and at the same time getting screwed by some sharpie back here in the states.

All they care about is if their litle world is still revolving aropund their latest ad in the vendor's forum or the latest pearl of wisdom they have dropped into the hopper.

"Somebody got screwed? Oh well, guess they asked for it." That seems to be the attitude here.

Not at all, it was just weird how Craig approached, because at first he asked for support, then he was upset at the members (he cleared things up now)... its not the attitude here, its just we don’t really know what he was asking. maybe some of us need to worry about our spelling :) jk, cool down, David :)

RE: A fellow Mark VIII owner/American soldier needs our

Dirty old man – If you come looking for reinforcement for what seems your own predetermined notions you’re sure to find the resolve you need to reinforce that notion.

As for the rest of us lets look at the facts.

Fact 1: There’s what seems to be a constantly increasing number of folks here who find they are not welcome over there, therefore would click on this topic, recognize the url where they are not welcome and move on to the next topic, which goes a long way’s to explaining a large number of views with few replies.

Fact 2: For those here who do frequent both sites it seems reasonable to assume they would click on this topic, find the redirect and post their opinions there, which also goes a long way’s to explaining a large number of views with few replies.

Fact 3: By the looks of the topic over there, and all the replies it’s gotten from both those faithful to that site, as well as those who float between the two it would seem that the people at large have pulled together even if not as yet to get the man the refund most feel he deserves, then certainly at least the moral support to make him feel he has the sympathies and understanding of many supporters. Isn’t it just that that is most important after all?

RE: Success!!!

RE: Success!!!

Here is a direct "cut and paste" to simplify the post. Johnell Pasley is getting his money back. Thanks to all who participated in the deluge of phone calls and emails to the shipping company. As promised, I am keeping you all informed as to the outcome.

The latest responses to this forum further amplify my concerns that I was voicing.

I think what you are about to read will end this discussion. I have to say that "Splat" summed it all up quite well.

Lets all sweep this under the rug, and call it a "lesson learned". I have learned that just because folks dont post a response, doesnt mean they dont care. And I hope I have taught you all that I am passionate when it comes to our Military personell, and that passion can be blinding. Knowing that, and the fact that I am a caring person who never wishes conflict, perhaps when you read what I write, try to find the "positive" in it.... I only mean the best.

Here is a direct "cut and paste" from "the other site"

{QUOTE}The only thing I can tell you, Johnell, is that the person I have been in contact with via email (who I assume is the owner) has been nothing but understanding and reasonable. When I got the email from him (which I posted here), I replied, promising that I would make his side of the story known - which I did. I've received a timely response to that email, and here it is:
"Thank you for looking at both sides of the story. I have thought long and hard about this. Since I have gotten quite a bit of feed back from your group, and I believe that numbers count, I have decided to return Mr. Pasley 's deposit. I am a fair person and belive that this is the right thing to do.

I want to thank you for taking the time to read and understand my side of the story. Because of your kindness and understanding I do want to make a refund to him."

Sincerely,
The Auto Shipping Company

I don't normally like to reveal private emails, but in this case I don't think they'll mind. Were they trying to screw you, and did an about-face because of the heat they got from here? Or, was your case simply a misunderstanding? I don't know, of course. If this guy has indeed provided discounted services to hundreds of military personnel (as he claims), he can't be all that bad. If you want my personal opinion, it sounds to me like he needs to replace the beeoch that handles the phone calls.{end quote}

Good job, glad to hear it. :)

You're right Craig, passion is something that can blind us all, but passions can make things happen.

Thanks for keeping us informed, and as I said, thank you for the apology, I think we all know sometimes words come out differently than we mean for them to.
