A Mounting Problem!

I have one bad motor mount on my '97 Mark. I plan on replacing both left and right mounts. However, I have been told that the mounts came stock as hydrolic mounts and that replacement mounts can be either hydrolic or solid.

Since I have never had a problem with any motor mounts in any car or truck I have owned, I do not know which ones are best. Have I been given the correct scoop about the mounts, and which ones are best, or does it make any difference or not?

The stock mounts are indeed liquid filled.

There are solid replacements that will outlast OEM motormounts. But I don't know if they isolate the engine as well as the original factory parts.

I have the 'solid' mounts and the answer is 'no they will not' isolate the engine as well as the original factory parts. It is not extreme by any means but is it perceptible.

Thanks for clearing that up. I figured there was a drawback to those.

I wouldn't consider it a drawback but some might. Truthfully with my exhaust now, I can't tell. :D

i have solid derlin mounts in my miata, they suck to drive with, don't get solid unless its made from some kind of rubber.

I used fluid filled replacements from Napa and you will be able to tell just by the look of them.

I used the solid rubber ones from SCP. To tell you the truth I really didn't notice much of a difference at all. Because of the trashed drivers side one that could be why, it was allowing the engine to move anyway. I would go with the rubber ones, still dampens the motor well but you won't have to worry about them being junk and leaking in a year or two.

Is there a way to replace them without dropping the cross member? I can't even see mine. Also, would a bad motor mount effect the noise in the radio at all? The noise changes as I apply the brakes and release the brakes. Has to be a grounding problem.

Yes you can, its a pain but you can. You remove the bolts from both mounts and, using an engine lift or jack, lift the entire engine up.

Solid Advice!

Solid Advice!

Thanks for the feedback! I think I will go with the solid rubber mounts since it sounds like they will last a lot longer than the OE mounts.
