A Real Expensive Free Oil Change

I was just beginning to devise a plan to replace my 23 footer...But NOOOOOO...My wife had to bring the TC into our dealer today for its' scheduled "free" oil/filter change, and to have a few minor gliches repaired. She's really LOVED that car and has always been loath to leave it at the dealership, she has never felt that any of the loaners that they've supplied compared to it. Well, as of 7:30 this morning all that changed. Those cunning devils at Country Lincoln gave her a 2003 TC as a loaner and now she doesn't want to give it back!!!

All I've heard since I came home is; "The new TC does this"... and, "the new TC does that"... and, "it's better than the old (!?!) one this way".. and, "it's better that way"... "and all the neighbors came over to say how good it looks and how much they like it", and on, and on. She's so excited about the darn car that she's beginning to sound like a 33 being played at 78 (if you don't get the reference ask some other old guy, it's too long to go into here).

My wife is NOT an extravagant or demanding person. In our 25 years of marriage I have never seen her this worked up about a car, or little else for that matter. All I can say is the '03 TC must be SOME SWEET RIDE for her to react like this. I refuse to drive it, but have to admit that it sure looks good in our driveway. She's in the den right now doing the math, and devising a scheme that will permanently put one there (bye-bye new boat). Like my post says, this is working out to be a VERY EXPENSIVE "free" oil change. Oh well, I was wondering what to get her for our Silver Anniverary, guess I've just found out. I probably won't be able to get away with giving us a new 25 footer (a foot for each year!), it was a long shot anyway, she hates boating and fishing.

WARNING TO ALL; Do not let this happen to you, avoid your dealers "Free" Service at all costs, go to your neighborhood repair shop, Jiffy Lube, do your own maintenance, or better yet, demand that your dealer supply a Hugo as a loaner... and save yourself a bundle!

RE: A Real Expensive Free Oil Change

As you know from my posts, on April 7th I took delivery of my new '03 Town Car. I have to agree with your wife. Of all th cars I have owned, this '03 Town Car is the best! The Ride, The Cornering, and Quietness & smoothness are unsurpassed. I love the power down and secure trunk lid as well as the dash, and the super comfy seats. I find the ultra w--i--d--e "C" pillar to block some visibility and I find that annoying. Otherwise, the car is faultless.

If you are over 55 years old, join AARP tomorrow. Lincoln is giving AARP members an extra $500.00 rebate!! Lincoln is also giving $5,000 rebate, unless you take their "special financing" (Not sure, I think it's 1.9%) ~ anyhow, I did the math, and it's cheaper to take the $5,000 and get a home equity loan or borrow it at the bank, if you are not able to pay cash. There is also $1,250.00 dealer back-door monies. Your decession to biu at one dealer over another could include a portion of the dealer back door money.....like $600.00 of it. Right now, it's VERY VERY possible to get $10,000.00 off of window sticker
Last (or final day) to place an order was YESTERDAY!! Friday the 30th. So, you'll have to locate one in stock!
DO NOT BUY A CARTIER EDITION!!! You can buy the CARTIER LIMITED EDITION (The one I bought) which gives you MORE content for $800.00 less money! The LIMITED EDITION is the best buy, by a football field in length. It's got the '04 grille & wheels and a nicer interior (perforatted leather and ALL leather, not just leather seating areas with vinyl bolsters !!). The entry level model (the "Executive") is NOT available with a moonroof (sunroof). DO NOT LET the salesman talk you into adding one to the car. Your chances of it leaking are 90% no matter WHAT is told to you). If you don't want a sunroof...go for the "Signature" series with package 200A }} A Signature PREMIUM (Package 220A) will be the same car, but with Sun Roof & Trunk Mtd. 6 Disc CD Changer). The LIMITED will add $2,100 to the price, and will include every option Lincoln offers on these cars, plus special interior and 2004 "pull ahead" features. Remember, you CAN get $10,000 of of MSRLP IF you join AARP, otherwise $9,500 off is do-able!
Good Luck!
Example:
My car listed at $47,654.00
I got $3,600 off of list price as a discount from dealer
I got $5,000 Rebate from Ford
I got $ 500 off for being a member of AARP (I am 56)
I got $ 600 worth of the $1,250 back door money.
So, I got $9,700 off of MSRLP.
Another dealer was willing to give me an add'l. $300 worth of the back door money and THAT woulda made it $10,000 of list, butthat dealer was 32 miles away, and I didn't wanna have to travel 64 miles round trip ever single time I needed warrentee service.

RE: A Real Expensive Free Oil Change

Thanks for the valuable information Sandy, I was hoping that you'd reply. I have followed your "Greenkin" posts and learned quite a bit from them. She really is a good looking car, and I'm sure that the photos don't do it's paint job justice. That darkened grill is really sharp! The information that you've just given me will be a big help when we go shopping. Boy, you really know yor Lincolns and other cars.
The pillar block is certainly a problem in our TC, it's very difficult to see vehicles and pedestrians when they approach from the left at a certain angle. This led to a couple of close calls when we first got the car. I thought that my wife was exaggerating the problem until I almost clipped a pedestrian last year. He was right next to the car and I never saw him, now we're very cautious about looking all around it before we move into traffic. Otherwise she tells me that all of the other sight lines have improved, and feels a lot more confident driving the '03. She says that it sits higher and has more of a "big car feel" to it. She also praised its' improved steering, handling and overall "tightness". Here's the best part, she's comparing our Signature series TC with about 30k pampered miles to an Executive series loaner with over 100k of hard miles on it, and tells me that the '03 is much tighter than ours! This is really saying something, for up to now our TC was one of the best riding cars that I've driven. She does say that the '03 isn't as quick as ours, this may be due to it's mileage, heavier weight, or a lack of maintenance. Regardless of this she's really sold on the car, and the fact that she feels much safer and more confident driving it is all that I need to know.
Thanks again for the info Sandy, keep us posted about how things are going with Greenkin.

RE: A Real Expensive Free Oil Change

greenKIN is fantastic, and I've never had a car that I love more! :) To me, it feels like my folk's Imerials that I grew up with (driving). I remember them very well, even though the last one was now 25 years ago. The T.C. feels (it isn't....but it feels like) the 5,000 lbs. that the "Imps" were! The "B" piller that gets me is the passenger side one. It blocks too much vision. I wish they still made 4-Door HARDTOPS. Recall them? Actually there is one left on the market, the Mitsubshi Diamante. Why do we need a 5" w-i-de "B" pillar anyhow????
