RE: A Switch to Windsor power . . .
I don't mean to add fuel to this fire, but I'm sorry I have to throw my 2-cents in.
Please look at my user name. That is the best run I did in my 1993 Mark VIII when it was STOCK almost 5-years ago. I gave myself that user name when there was no mods available for this car and there were only about 20-users on Carcus’s ‘Land Shark and Mark VIII’ message board.....the predecessor to the predecessor of this board.
Don’t know what 14.6 translates into for 0-60 times, but it sure is faster than 7.1 or 6.8. Here is my fastest time slip from March 1999 when my car was stock.....
60’ – 2.230
330 – 6.258
1/8 – 9.537
MPH – 75.52
1000 – 12.313
1/4 - 14.637
MPH – 97.05
I’m also not the only one on this board to run 14.6 stock. (Geno and Phatz to name 2)
Running in colder weather (40 degrees or so), running with a ¼ tank of gas, AND manually shifting brought the car’s time down 3-tenths or so......magazines DON’T test cars that way (well maybe Hot Rod and Muscle Mustang does). Anybody that has raced a stock 3.08 geared Mark VIII through the quarter knows that if you don’t manually shift or at least pull the car back into Low-2 after the 1-2 shift, the car will shift into 3rd BEFORE the 1/4 mile mark, making it slower. The car will not hit the rev limiter in low-2 through the quarter. Manually shifting from low-1 to low-2 also makes the car considerably quicker over the 1/4......again, magazines DON’T do that.
Please don’t take any of this the wrong way. Just commenting that a stock Mark VIII is capable of running faster than 7.1 0-60, as I did in mine. This has nothing to do with your project, which sounds great, just defending my car.
Btw – my car now runs 14.3 with just a cat-back exhaust. In the 7-years and 145,000 miles I have owned my car, I’ve made about 200
1/4-miles passes.
