Hello just bought a 97 mark viii ive been reading this forum but still not sure after i start my car and take off when i reach about 15 mph the abs light comes on then the check traction control. the brakes work fine its just annoying i cleaned the sensors in the back and those teeth but that didnt work next im gonna try the front sensors they dont sell them at advance or autozone where i live so where can i get them and does that sound like the problem.

Yep those sensors are a HUGE issue. It took me over a week to find one for my 98 which was a 1 year only.

Check rockauto.com... then start checking junkyards... jamie might have one.

Have the codes read before you do anything else.

Cleaning sensors or ring gears is overrated. Unless they're filled with metal flakes, it's not your problem.

Brake out an impedance meter and check the resistance on the sensor plugs in the trunk and in the front wheel wells. They should be around 1k Ohm.

Sorry i wouldnt even know where to get an impedance meter the car i bought is very nice just a few bugs to work out is there any other way to test the front abs sensors.

It has rear sensors also... You need to have it tested at a shop. They shouldn't charge you more than $50. Or you can buy a volt-meter... any auto parts store or wal-mart has em.

Good luck.. I had the right front sensor go on my 98 and it took 6 months to find one by putting the word out to everyone I could think of.
Fortunately, you have a 97 which is compatable with other years. The 98s were the only year for that one...

Crap I didn't know 98 ABS sensors were 1 year only... makes me light weight scared... knock on wood...

On a side note, a similar situation happened to my uncle and his 93 Mark VIII. He needed a brake proportioning valve and the 93 was model year specific.

93-97's all interchange so that makes it nice when it comes to finding them, i have tons of them, front and rear, but finding 98 sensors is not fun, but you wont have to worry about that, bring the car to a reputable shop and have it checked, then you'll know which sensor(s) you need.
