my ac has a mind of its own.
the air cycles out of the defrost vents and intermittenly switches to the front panel during which time it becomes quite refreshing. unfortunately it seems to spend most of the time blowing through the defrost vent where the hot window takes the chill out of the conditioned air, i think. the fault occurs when the control is in manual or automatic mode and set on ac or or max ac.
when i switch to floor or floor panel mode the setting holds but the air feels warmer.
any ideas? thanks
 
Sounds like you have a vacuum leak. The default position of the ducting is to defrost. Any time you have little or no vacuum, the ducting will cycle to defrost. Also, low vacuum will cause the a/c compressor to cycle off, hence the warmer air. I am by no means an expert, but am going by what I have been told, and learned over several years of fighting with auto a/c systems.
 
You also can have a check valve leak. This will cause eratic operation. A full blown leak will result in defrost position only.
