That is funny. GM said the same thing about the Mustang in 1964, because they had the Corvair. I guess they do not learn from their history.

GM have thier mistakes, but until Lincoln can come CLOSE to caddy's current image and line up, the joke is on ford.

Both Caddilac and Lincoln are looking pretty lame right now.

I wonder if we'll see the re-birth of a new F-body in 06'? }(

Pretty darn smart...for a Toyota driver! }(

Seriously, very wise statement Moe. I honestly feel as if Ford is trying to pin the tail on the donkey, and the blindfold is on too tight...like they are wandering around, trying to find who they are....Perhaps they are in puberty...I dunno...major chemical and hormonal imbalance right now...I mean...what the *&%$ is the 500? Line that up next to a CTS-V, and tell me hwo "knows" what direction they are headed. Ford always feels they have to replace a current model with something else...thry need to bring out another option than the Mustang though. A new model...not a Taurus/dis-Sable replacement. Personally, I would LOVE to see a 2-door, RWD, V8 powered coupe OTHER than the Mustang...be it a Merc, a Lincoln, or a Ford....

But, GM and their crazy smack-talking publicists are in for a rude awakening when the aftermarket industry latches on to the new Mustang.

Then again, I dont think the Cobaolt has been recalled for defective engines yet...maybe they DO have the Mustang covered, while the Mustang is in a stagnate state of repair....

Still...I wonder where the Cobalt will be 40 yrs from now...say what you want about the Mustang...they still sell!

I'm sure you've already seen the CTS-V, how about the STS-V? The XLR-V? In addition, their new upcoming baby caddy car or whatever they call it.

Caddy is serious about changing their image, and it’s really working out for them. They are not who they were back in the 90's, and I think it’s really great they realized which wheels should spin on a car.

Lincoln can’t come close to caddy's current or even complete lineup in '07. You should look at this article, I really did despise caddy a few years ago the same way I feel about Lincoln right now, but I think they are coming back into the game, and they are coming back strong with serious equipment. I’m happy to see another domestic company take on the Germans at what they do best, they might not beat them in the first few of years, but hey, it’s a start ford yet has a long way to match.

RE: According to GM they have the Mustang GT covered

Cobalt is just another name for Cavalier, right?!? :p

IMO, it is nowhere near a sports car image.

RE: According to GM they have the Mustang GT covered

Now that I think about it, they do have the Mustang covered.

The GTO is an all around better car...in my opinion.

RE: According to GM they have the Mustang GT covered

The Cobalt SS Supercharged does 0-60 mph in 6.4 seconds and runs the quarter mile in 14.9 seconds. I think this is more to compete with the Focus SVT and not the Mustang GT. Nevertheless those numbers are better then the ones published for a Mark VIII.

It seems that GM cannot supercharge their cars for shizznit. Cobalt SS and Monte SS are prime examples of that.

Well, maybe except the GN, but that's turbo.

Cobalt SS Supercharged 205 HP 2.0L or 102.50 HP per liter

2004 Mustang Cobra Supercharged 390 HP 4.6L or 84.78 HP per liter

It seems that Ford cannot supercharge their cars for shizznit.

Car and Driver posted these estimated numbers for the Cobalt SS
Zero to 60 mph: 6.1 sec
Zero to 100 mph: 16.0 sec
Standing 1/4-mile: 14.7 sec @ 97 mph
Top speed (drag limited): 140 mph

Not bad for a $22k car, what do you expect for that money.

RE: According to GM they have the Mustang GT covered

Dodge Neon SRT-4 MSRP 21195 (cheaper than the Chevy).
230hp
250pound feet of torque
0-60 in 5.6
1/4 Mile: 14.2
1/4 Speed: 102
I would rather get that dodge then the chevy if we're talking "sport compact performance"

You are just too slow like the Chevy :p

There are a lot of cheep performance compacts out there.

I know it is more $$$ then the others, but the Subaru WRX STi is still a lot for the money. 1/4 mile in 13.23@104.6

The WRX STi has 120 hp / liter making it very powerfull.

The Neon has 89.58 hp / liter

Price range $32,000-$32,500 (est) for the WRX. You can do alot to a Neon with that $12k price delta... }(

Yea, but Barbi has a Neon, nothing you can do for that image even if it is very fast. :+

RE: According to GM they have the Mustang GT covered

True. Can't argue that. I would lower it, and put whitewalls on it anyway :p That should kill what little image it had left after Barbi was done with it.
