Aftermarket cams?

Anyone have any sound clips or videos of their cars with aftermarket cams? I usually steer clear of re-grinds, but sean hylund motorsports has some good deals on re-grinds and I'm a cheap fella. What do you think? Anyone using his re-grinds?

There is alot of other stuff to do to these cars that will get you alot more than just cams.

I would look at a set of 03/04 C heads and an intake to match!

i have a set of there regrind stage 2 cams but have yet to instill them. everybody here already thinks my car is built up so i figure why not. i want to put them in but thats alot of work to pull the front of the motor apart and degree in the cams for prob only a few hp and a little better sound.

I've seen this question come up dozens of times across a few forums. Cams are not worth installing for all the work involved. BigBoy is right, a head swap can be done in half the time and give ya a MUCH bigger boost. Get a nice 01 Cobra intake on there and you will have a Mark like this:

i have a short runner 96 cobra intake that i bought awhile ago for my car but have yet to put it on. how much power could i expect to gain from that??

If you do get a set of re-grinds, be sure to get the proper size shims to make up for the lost (ground off) material. If you buy from a reputable dealer, they should be included.

Yep. Hyland's come with shims. :D So I should get heads off of a 03/04 cobra with an 01 cobra intake? And the stock cobra heads and intake will make that much difference?

Sounds like you want to go the most expensive and labor intensive route for the littlest HP gain possible.

These engines have the power...you just need to get it to the ground. Some gears, a t/l and some exhaust work and you'd be in the same boat.

Or you could do like Unity and swap in an Aviator motor...... :)

But then what after that? Will cams really not do anything for these motors? I don't particularily want to run nitrous, so I'm going as far as I can, reasonably, on motor. :)

3200 Stall Converter, Chip, Headers, Coil Packs, Nology Wires........

I was running 13.8's w/1.8 60 foot times completely loaded(2 15's subs in trunk/spare/full tank of gas) on street tires....completely STOCK internals on the motor.

If you want to get into the 12's you're looking at some sort of boost.

You could, I just don't necessarily buy that the Cobra intake is all that it's cracked up to be. True, the Cobra intake is better than either stock Mark VIII intake, Gen1 and certainly Gen2. But you can get good flow from a modified Gen1 intake IMHO.

You'll need headers to take full advantage of whatever intake mods you do.

If your really interested in know what you have and whats available go out and pick up Hyland's book on Ford Modular Motors. Its a good read(even if a little dated now) that will help you a lot!

I second that........I read it a couple of times, it just made me wish I had more money.

Thanks J, driller, and BigBoyBoelts for the info. I'll try the port and polish route. I've already got plans for a converter and a chip. I think Kook's is the only place that makes headers? The Mark VIII was dropped off this morning to get 3.73's and a traction lock installed. I'll know more at 5pm.
