aftermarket cd changer or ipod adapter

I have a 99 conti the no cd player. It has an OEM alpine system. I'm wondering were the plug is so I can install either a aftermarket changer or ipod adapter and still have use of steering wheel controls. I looked under the console and saw no leads. Are they directly off the radio? Any ideas?

RE: aftermarket cd changer or ipod adapter

My 99 Conti came with an Alpine & CD in the console.
I thought the Alpine unit was part of the premium sound package which
included the CD player. Any signs that one was removed from inside
your console storage bin? I would think the Alpine would have a
socket, but on Mark VIII/JBL units the cd was unique to that head
unit and so the head unit wouldn't work with aftermarket players.

RE: aftermarket cd changer or ipod adapter

Mel; I just recently bought the car from my friend (the original owner). He said when he bought the car new, the dealer offered to install the CD player in the console. They said they would have to temporally take out the console. He said no because he didn't like the idea of having that messed with. He was afraid they'd break something I guess. The in dash unit says ALPINE and has casette and also buttons for controlling the CD changer. If I remember right the window sticker said premium sound package. I did remove console but no leads for a CD changer. They must be up by the radio. On yours does the changer take up all the space in the console? Jeff

RE: aftermarket cd changer or ipod adapter

Sorry I took so long to check back on this thread.
It takes up over half of the space in the bottom
of the hole and comes 3/4 of the way to the top,
mounted on the pass. side, with the cartridge
ejecting straight up. It has the potential of
being a real trash catcher.

CORRECTION!
I got in the car and looked in the console.
The CD is on the drivers side, the dc power jack is on the passenger side.

You are talking about the console between your bucket seats aren't you? If so, do I understand you still have access to dc jack in it? Thanks.

RE: aftermarket cd changer or ipod adapter

Yes to both Qs. After actually looking in the console, there's
a lot less empty space than I remembered when I made the original
post. The CD comes to about an inch from the bottom of the console lid and uses all the space to the left of the dc jack.
