Aftermarket Mufflers or Muffler DELETE

I saw a post on this awhile back and i remember a bunch of different opinions.
Either way im going to eventually put flowmasters or magnaflows on it. But right now I have a saw zaw plugged in on the porche, im ready to cut off the mufflers, because i love the soud.

In general, will i lose power by doing this? Will it be "Super Loud?"
And what are the effects with nitrous? Will it be a little better to get more "flow" on the exhaust while using nitrous? (is more in - more out , better?)

Another note, my cats are clogged, this may help with a delete for now?

All in all will it sound like crap AND preform worse? with or without nitrous?
Or will it sound real loud and run a little better / same ? I remember my 96 it sounded good but was a little doggish? will this be a little different with my LSC?

1997 Mark 8 LSC

Thanks for your opinions / information

I cut mine. Its not that loud really. I dont know about the others, I haven't noticed a loss in power, but I haven't taken it too the track since to be sure.

I didn't lose any e.t. before I cut mine off or after. I was afraid at first when I cut them off because most cars sound like crap with no mufflers, but actually it sounds like a cobra with borla exhaust. I really like it. The only real benefit would be the loss of weight, but it does sound good. Get a sawzall and 5 minutes and they will be gone. I've had several people ask me what brand of exhaust I was using and I said none. I just cut the mufflers off. They were quite shocked that it sounded that good. It's worth it in my opinion. :D

I cut the mufflers off and it sounded pretty good for a while. I put cut outs in before the y style cat and it sounded very nice with no loss in power. It was about as loud as my old mans 2001 lightning with a full exhaust

I would REALLY love to cut mine off to see how it sounds before I go 2.5" all over.

But I have no cats. From what I hear, everyone that has done this has everything in place.

Maybe I should just try it anyway! :D

i have straight pipe on my car now all 3 cats are gutted and there is a piece of pipe in place of the resonator. it does sound good but it is a little loud after i did it it seems to light the tires up a little easier but my track times are about the same before and after. im spraying a 100 shot and it seems to do fine for me.

I got a clogged cat., one of them at least. I can smell it when I drive fast. I want to do this too so let me know how it turns out. I have the same year car.

my 93 has all stock exhaust and all 3 cats and resonator still, all i did is cut off the mufflers, and welded on two pieces of pipe about the length of the mufflers but they are 2 1/2 inch diameter. it actually sounds pretty damn good for not spending a dime! maybe i'll get a clip of it.

Yep. Mine still has the stock exhaust, minus the mufflers. :)

I've cut mine off, drive it for a weekend, then the next weekend, the resonator came out, so now all i have is the stock 3 cats. it has a nice "gargle" at idle if you will lol but at WOT it don't scream that much. i like it and it cost me nothing because i reused the flange from the resonator and welded it on to the pipe i replaced it with then used another exhaust clamp, so its still unboltable like the resonator was. the resonator doesn't quiet it down THAT much just changes the tone a bit, you can hear more rumble without it.

I heard a 97 once with headers, no cats a crossover and mufflers (I think aftermarket, but I'm not sure anymore). It was nice and quiet at idle, and it had a very nice, deep growl under throttle.

Well, i found a few vids of mark 8 stock exhaust minus the mufflers, so i did it. And... wow I cant beleive how good it sounds. Its amazing. Feels a little faster too, maybe my imagination. Tommorow is race day and ill see by the times. All my exhaust is stock still minus the mufflers. A little backpressure is needed.

Im bringing my camera so ill record the times i get. I will post them here and Track times tommorow.

Sorry i put in wrong place :/
