Air Box Mods

So I've been reading on here, and it seems like alot of people with Mark VIII's remove their air silencers and baffles if I'm correct. I was wondering if anyone had done this with a Continental, or if it was even possible. I'm still kind of in the "new car" mode, so I dont't want to go taking things apart just yet for exploration, but I will if I know what's in there. Thanks

RE: Air Box Mods

Chris,
I don't have one, but I do have some insight on the idea of such a mod. I would remove the silencer, and replace the stock filter with a drop-in K&N, I really don't see how you could go wrong in doing that...Even if you just apply the dropin K&N I think you are doing SOME good...If it were mine I would remove the silencer and not look back though...

I wouldn't really mess with the stock intake, unless you're going for a larger MAF or a conical filter etc etc.

RE: Air Box Mods

What is the advantage to using a conical filter in the engine compartment??? I would think that engine bay temps would snuff out any gains and maybe even produce a loss...Do they have cold air intake systems for the Conti's? You can't apply a MAF upgrade to a stock intake tube paired up with say a Drop in K&N filter???

What is the stock MAF size anyways???

This is my 94SC engine compartment...Using a 76MM C&L with a ZR Cold Air Intake CAI, 9" conical, #42 injectors, 75MM Throttle body from 94-95 mustang modded to fit the SC upper intake and linkage...I just finihsed building this car last spring...There is much more to tell if anyone is interested...I can't wait to get my hands on a CONTI...

RE: Air Box Mods

IF the conical is shielded from the heat by a cold air box or something then it would be benificial b/c of more surface area of filter media.

RE: Air Box Mods

Okay, So decided I am just going to replace the filter and remove the silencer. So I just went out and took the whole air filter assembly apart. I'm going to have to be honest, I thought the silencer was just a baffle or something in there, and what I thought was the silencer was just the air meter. So what part of the filter assembly is actually the silencer? Sorry to ask stupid questions, I just really don't know what it is. Chris

RE: Air Box Mods

I think its different in the Continental, at least because the air box is on the driver side. Although I still dont know how to get to it from the wheel well even if it is just flipped.

RE: Air Box Mods

hi all new to this forum.the air baffle is in the left fenderwell behind the cover.the K&N filter replacement is a common change over for the 95 and up contis.makes a couple of mpg's and a few more ponies and has a sweet growl when you push her.
