Aluminum Grill ON the car

OK, for all those that say words are nothing...

Yes, they are close to stock. That is what 65% of the population wanted when I did polls about this. About 25% wanted horizontal and another group wanted something custom like yours. I went with those that wanted the stocker look.

Prices will be put in stone in the next week or two and I'll set up a link to do the orders then. This will require some time and effort for the install. It took me about 3 hours total to remove and fit the new grill. Put aside a bit more time to color match the mounting brackets on a car that is not black like mine(buy touch up paint and paint the mounts, screws, etc.).

Here are the pics, I hope you like them I fought hard on this 'little' project.

RE: Aluminum Grill ON the car

That is hot! If I get the insurance company to fix my bumper i'm gonna pocket the cash and buy one of those!

RE: Aluminum Grill ON the car

Nope, no Gen 2. Yet... I don't have a gen 2 grill to work off of... except off my dads collector and I don't think he would be happy to give that up.

RE: Aluminum Grill ON the car

Now Mike, as kids, we are suppose to use some of Dad's stuff that he doesn't want us to use. I'm 45 and still remember some of the crap I pulled about that stuff. So........:7

'Just a comment - I think it would look a little better if the curved braces in back followed the curves of the hood and bumper instead of curving down. - 'don't know if that's possible or not. 'Still looks great!

Excellent! :)

I have to admit, the earlier pics off the car did not do it justice. I didn't feel the same before as I do now. Depending upon price, I may just order one! ;)

Not sure what you mean on this?

Not sure what you mean on this?[/div]If you look at your first pic notice how the "bracing" behind your vertical bars curves downward, like a frown. Now imagine if they curved to follow through along the horizontal lines of the bumper - that's all.

RE: Aluminum Grill ON the car

Yeah, I noted that too. I'm asking them if they can change that to "smile" or to be horizontal like you mentioned... It might not be possible because of the curve of the grill though.

RE: Aluminum Grill ON the car

Another alternative would be if just the brace portions were painted flat black...they wouldn't show so much. Still much better than a stock grille, though.

Man, if they looked like a smile, it'd give the car one HELL of a sweet EVIL grin!!!

RE: Aluminum Grill ON the car

Looks good. I think it needs a horrizontal bar running across the bottom though, just to finish it off.

RE: Aluminum Grill ON the car

Hey guys,

Thanks for all the feed back.

I have some bad news, good news, and informative news:

Bad news: Someone backed into the front of my car putting great force into the grill and driving it 2 inches back behind the trim that goes above it. (Scratched up their car good)

Good news: Only the grill's support (stock support) was damaged. I'll be able to retack weld that and fix it. The grill survived with NO visible evidence that anything ever happened.

Informative news:

I have decided to move back to the drawing board and redesign just a bit. I will try to have the bottom curve added to the grill and remove about 10-25% of the vertical bars. This should give make a nice median for those that want a stock look and those that want a custom look.

The bad side is of course this will take more time and a new gig design. I'll keep you all informed as I progress.

RE: Aluminum Grill ON the car

Gee Mike, we didn't know you were going to load test it. :+

RE: Aluminum Grill ON the car

Well I did make the claim that it was better than OEM, and one of those claims why it was better than OEM was because it would not break like the OEM's. Now I can state that this has been tested I guess... ::roll::
