AMOCO 93 Ultimate Gas?

Hey Guy's.....I wanted to pass on some info. I have gained from running Amoco Ultimate 93 Gas. I swear that I can tell a "Seat of the pants" difference in the performance of my car!!

I did read an article on the web that stated this: " Amoco Ultimate Gases go through a proprietary process that removes the PNA's (Poly-Nuclear-Aromatics). These are responsible for the slight yellow-ish color in gasoline, which is the cause for the red-ish color of most gasolines! Also, this color is the cause of the residue (tar-like) that builds up in your injectors"

Oh Well, if this guy knew what he was talking about, then there might be something too it!!

I also assume that as I do more and more Mods. to my Mark VIII that it increases the need to run "High" Octane Gas?

Any thoughts??????

Thanks, Joe

RE: AMOCO 93 Ultimate Gas?

Amoco here in Nebraska is only 92, but I go out of my way to get it. I can't present any scientific evidence, but the car seems to like it better than other brands (mostly 91 around here)

RE: AMOCO 93 Ultimate Gas?

There's an Amoco and a Mobil up the street from me, about a quarter mile. I usually use Mobil, because I get a better "vibe" there. The service seems better (really isn't, when you evaluate it objectively) but the store seems better taken care of, and the reciept machines on the pumps work, unlike at Amoco.

I've been meaning to put some turbo blue in there (110 octane, leaded) to see what it'll do.

RE: AMOCO 93 Ultimate Gas?

I (almost) always put Amoco 93 in my Mark. Always have since I bought it. Same thing in my Mustang. Since I haven't tried anything else I can't say if it's the best, but I have no reason to switch.

RE: AMOCO 93 Ultimate Gas?

In my case - the higher the octane - the better the mileage. Can't say much about one brand of gas versus another - but as you modify your car - you AND the car will be more sensitive to the effect of the fuel.

Dave - I'm not sure I would chance running Turbo Blue in a car that's used to pump gas. I have a feeling you would dissolve any and all build up in the tank and lines - and it would all try to run through the injectors at once.

That stuff is the BEST solvent I've ever seen. I ran some in the generator in a race trailer once when we ran out of regular gas - and ended up spending the afternoon cleaning a bunch of ick out of the carb.

When Turbo Blue gets on your hands - before you can reach for a rag - it's dry. Like pure alcohol.

RE: AMOCO 93 Ultimate Gas?

My friend Dave ran turbo blue it in his Cougar. Didn't fill up with it of course, just maybe a 25 or 30% mix. He never had a problem (with the fuel system that is, the rest of the car is a POS). I'm going to try the same thing sooner or later, just haven't got around to it. Maybe in the fall when it cools down and i want to go for a low e/t.

RE: AMOCO 93 Ultimate Gas?

I will go out of my way for AMOCO (BP) 93. It is the only fuel I use in the Mark. The car just flat out runs best on it.

RE: AMOCO 93 Ultimate Gas?

The only reason I even knew about it was that I guy that works with me has a "Heavly" Modified 2002 Mustang GT and he noticed a big difference in the way his car ran, idle, performed with the Amoco 93 Gas, so I tried it too!

At the two stations near me the Amoco 93 is not much higher priced than the other good brands (Approx. $1.60/gal.)

My $0.02

Thanks, Joe

They have 93 here in Fremont at all the Amoco (BP) stations. I do alternate every 2 tankfulls with a 91 or 92 from a diffrent station.

Leaded? I thought it wasn't even legal to sell it these days. Besides, wouldn't leaded fuel seriously screw up your emissions system?

RE: AMOCO 93 Ultimate Gas?

I try to only run my car on 92 or 93 Octane Phillups 66 gas only. I never use other brands unless I'm somewhere where the Phillups isn't available at. Which is almost non existant where I drive. But this brings up an interesting point. I might have to try a tank of Amoco out.

They sell it at racetracks and certain other gas stations. It's sold at a few places around here, usually near the water.

I don't have much left anymore as far as an emissions system goes...

RE: AMOCO 93 Ultimate Gas?

Once you have optimized your timing and get no knocking you will not get any benefit from higher octane gas.

RE: AMOCO 93 Ultimate Gas?

Thanks guys!! For securing my job.
Ssshhhh I work for BP/Amoco. I also use the gasoline most of you are buying I use the Ultimate in the Mark. And the regular nolead in my other vehicles. For 14 years now No problems.

RE: AMOCO 93 Ultimate Gas?

Amoco Ultimate is the only gas that I will run in my lawn equipment. It never gums up even after leaving it in the tank over the winter (Since I use my cars year-round, I don't have to worry about the winter storage for them). I've never used any StaBil in my life, yet I've never had a problem with gumming except on an engine where regular gas was used.

Therefore, I try to use Ultimate whenever I can in my Mark. Occasionally, I have tried using regular gas on every other tankful with no ill effects. But I would not expect the same performance with regular.

You can have your chip burned with enough timing that you could only run premium fuel if you want. A competent programmer would know how to do that. If you buy a switchable chip, you could have an alternate program available so that you could run regular (just in case you wanted to save some bucks at the pump).
