Amp breakdown?

I noticed the other day while driving on a 1 hour trip, the stereo seemed to start to distort and put out static? Reminds me of the old days with high powered amps getting hot. The volume level wasn't very high, maybe 30% and it was playing CDs at the time. I didn't bother to switch to radio, just turned it off. I have not noticed it since but its only been short trips lately.

Could the JBL amp be going out? Or the CD changer? Or the head unit? Any suggestions?

RE: Amp breakdown?

I, too, have recent concerns with my amp(/audio/electrical system?). Just got some intermittent static today from my rear driver side speaker. Also for a few weeks I have gotten a "pop" (like popping a bubble in bubble wrap) when I first start the car. It doesn"t matter if volume is turned down or not.

Any of you audiophiles able to help Driller or me?

RE: Amp breakdown?

I have a factory JBL amp... and headunit. $35 each or $60 for the pair. They have performed flawlessly. I would also check the connections on the amp and in the back of the headunit maybe they shook loose.

I thought I'd do that just to be sure, but even again today, going to town and back, it played just fine.
