Anime

Anyone here into anime? The kid is heavily into it but he won't post, so I'm checking to see if anyone else collects this stuff. If so, what? Any suggestions for good series? (I'm always looking for new gift ideas and stuff.) I've successfully ordered some great stuff on ebay such as wall scrolls and t-shirts, but while searching online for a good price on DVD's, almost ordered the DVDs for one of the series in Japanese. I've learned to watch for the details now. ;-)

RE: Anime

u should watch the essentials...akira, ninja scroll, and ghost in the shell. all amazing movies with great attention to detail with really great stories as well.

RE: Anime

My #2 daughter is deep, deep into anime. She has a couple of websites and everything. She a still out of work animator (works for Blockbuster to survive). She wants to work for Disney, but unless you already have a name in the business, you are SOL.

Her music page: http://www.derik.org/cels/AMP/AMP.htm

Her "Fushigi Yuugi" page: http://www.derik.org/Gateway/index.html

These sites have a lot of her artwork.

I just tried the sites and they still work.

RE: Anime

I have some anime porn, but other than that, i find it annoying as much as anything. I prefer the classics (donald duck, etc.). Now if i can find some good disney porn... :)

RE: Anime

Anime has always had a big female following in the USA. But now a lot of young men, between the ages of 15 and 25 are giving Japanese animation a REAL close look.

The young ladies have always known the anime guys were hunks. The guys are just now finding out that there are usually always several nudie minutes where the anime hunks walk in on the anime ladies, who just so happens to be in the middle of dressing/undressing or showering. A school shower is a popular background for some major anime girl watching. And these anime ladies could get jobs at Hooters with no problems. Long-legged and shapely, they are receiving a dedicated following of young men, all with their tongues hanging out.

And the differences between Japanese censors and our straight laced, defenders of our children’s morals is interesting to note. A full frontal shot of male and female anime characters, drawn is exquisite detail, would get a XXX rating so fast here in the states, that you would be able to hear the sonic boom of the pen three states away. The Japanese censor would not bat an eye.

Take that same shot and draw in pubic hair and then take cover! That Japanese censor would be more than willing to close the anime studio down, permanently.

RE: Anime

Except for Speed Racer (sorry Splat, even Heavy Metal didn't really do it for me) I have very little interest in anime myself, although I think some of the artwork is incredible.

RE: Anime

I don't know much anime, but I like it. Some titles I remember:
Akira, Ghost in the Shell (mentioned already, but these seem to be the most well known in my experience)
Iria
Gunsmith Cats (I think there are only three episodes, but they're good and one of the main characters drives a '67 GT-500 :) )
Cowboy Bebop (only seen the "Best of" DVD, very good)
Vampire Hunter D (cool, but way out there, two movies I think)
Record of Lodoss War
Gundam (never seen it, but I think there are about a trillion episodes)
Animatrix (a few shorts about The Matrix, done by different artists; my favorite is "A Detective Story," done by the the folks that did Cowboy Bebop).
Final Fantasy (the movie, don't know if this is technically anime because of its computer animation, but it's story really fits the mold)

I tend to like anime that's more realistic or dark. I don't much care for the really cartoonish stuff.
