these are not fun to remove without power tools! i had to put some spares on the 97 i took apart and roll it out in the sun to get the urethane hot so i could crawl inside and cut the rear window out. i have a few of these now with real nice gaskets and i cant let myself give the junkyard a good window even though they suck to cut out! i got it out today and cleaned all the urethane off and cleaned the glass so now its ready to go into another mark! anyone local need it, i'll sell it cheap!!

NOW, you tell me! trying to find a good one here in az. is like trying to find a snowcone in hell. I suppose there is no way of removing the seal from the window without destorying it.I understand you can't get them individually. I have a spare rear window w/linguiny so I can screw-up the glass one time.

you cant remove the seal without cutting it off, at that point throw it away cuz its done! hey kid, the last one i tried cutting out, i was 3 hours into it, and had 10 inches left, i had my brother in law on the opposite side of the car holding up on it slightly for me, my knife got stuck and i told him " hold up" meaning stop but he took it as hold the window up higher and it shattered right it front of my eyes, i looked at him and all he had left in his hands was the seal around the glass, the rest was all over the package tray and in the trunk, OMG if it was legal to do it, i would have killed him lol!

its called a long blade, its just a utility knife with a 36 inch handle. its best to leave the car in the sun so the urethane gets hot and soft, you also have to cut from inside the car if you want to save the outter seal lol, you cant cut the glass from outside.

That exactly what I was using and doing... just didn't work out for me so well...

I threw a rock at the window afterwards because I was so pissed....

if you do it inside or in the shade you'll never cut through the factory urethane without snapping 500 blades. urethane is very dense and hard to cut cold, the best thing to do when getting ready to cut out a back window is let it sit in the sun for an hour and get nice and hot. then the blades will cut through the urethane like butter.

:Dand you probably threw away the seal that was left over!!!!! it was fastened to the glass at the factory was'nt it!!! you do nice body and paint work but I'll bet I've removed and replaced more glass! (I've had my share of close calls also) if you put a small box heater inside the car for a few minutes and work slowly its amazing how much easier it is to get glued in windows out(a bit uncomfortable though!) and a set of small wedge blocks that you push in as needed are more reliable than a friend that really does'nt know what he's doing is...... seems like your still learning. don't get pissed we all are! (I had a buddy help me remove a 65 mustang windshield that was new but the guy reused the old seal and when he tore it used silicone to fix it my buddy pulled too hard and shattered it into my face windshields don't break into cubes they make shards I learned to wear eye protection and cut the old seal at a 45 degree angle away from the glass instead of straight up from the edge of the glass! sure took the edge off of the good deal I got on the car though!!)

i would own that tool, but not for that price lol i do this enough to blow money like that!
mercur, everything you said is how i took this window out lol, i made wood wedges to keep light tention on the glass all the way around, and i started the glass out in the sun but lost the sun so i pushed the car back in my shop and put my space heater on the rear package tray and aimed it up at the left rear corner since i only had about 12 inches left to cut. this is my 8th back window i have cut out of one of these cars, i dont care how many you do, this certain window is never any fun because the way its designed, the bead of urethane is tucked in so far from the actual rear quarter of the car it makes every part of removing it a treat!!!

I've done a lot of window removals. but none of them had the reverse curve that these do! I bet there is a trick to them and if you've only broke one (with unskilled help) thats probably way better than average! and with the package tray so tight they don't look like fun at all! is there room for a wire type cutter?I assume you leave the bottom for last

Yeah, back in the old days, the piano wire cutter was the snaz. Probably wouldn't work on the Mark 8 or a lot of the newer cars.

yes it will work, in fact thats how i took one out last summer, used a guitar string and some vise grips i was in the car my buddy was outside the car. but you dont want to do this to your personal car it will destroy the paint, but to cut one out of a junker who cares about the paint!. actually the bottom is what i cut first, its the top two corners that are the hardest because they really glob the urethane up there and its the deepest section to cut. i just picked up another 97 today and the rear window is mint on it also so now it looks like i have another one to cut out ugggggggggg!!
