Another Squeaking Mark VIII

Now that I've got the overheating problem fixed, with your help I might add, I'm hoping your might be able to give me hope about the embarassing squeaking comming from the AC compressor. I change my belt a few months and the squeaking stop for a few days maybe a week at the most. Today I had all I could take and track down the source of the squeak, been too afraid before because it may be very bad news. What I did find out is that it went away when I turned the AC on for a while but when the wife got in it to go to the store it's back.
So do I have to keep the AC on, or can I lube the clutch? Everything I know about clutches (which is very little) has kept from flooding the front of the ac compressor with lube. AC works like a champ and replacing the compressor is not in the budget but is there anything I can do to better the situation?
Thanks
Tom

Replacing the AC clutch actually doesn't cost that much. Less than $100 if I recall correctly. This is assuming the clutch is your problem.

I've never replaced a clutch on a compressor before, but from what I have heard it is not an easy job, especially when still in the car (just because of space).

This is a general statement about A/C Compressor clutches and not about the Mark VIII in specific.

How would you guys rank this job on the difficulty scale?

It's not too bad. You'll need snap ring pliers. Mine came in 2 pieces from the dealer, the pulley/bearing, and the outer hub. This was actually on my contour, but it's the same.

If they only charged me $100, it can't be that hard.

Thanks for the input, I'll check into my local lincoln dealer for price, but I don't want to put a lot of money into the car right now, it's got 146K miles and we may be looking at getting a new car soon
