anybody use this oil??

I agree, I use moble 1. AMS is all Hype IMO and very $$$. I think you cant go wrong with any of the lots cheaper synthetics out there.

Yes, I changed to Amsoil in my 1st CE. I was quite pleased with it. However, I am now on my 3rd CE, and have Mobil 1 in it and will continue with that because of cost. I buy my oil and filters (motorcraft) at Walmart and have it changed at Express Lube.

Tests have shown Amsoil to be ever so slightly "better" than Amsoil, but not worth the added cost in my opinion. The only advantage I can see is if you really wanted to go 10-15,000 mile (I can't recall what it is, to be honest) or a year between changes. I can't see the benefit personally and I'm not comfortable with that long of an interval -- dirty oil is dirty oil, regardless of how quickly it supposedly breaks down.

I run Mobil 1 - at 5/5 intervals - always have. It's factory fill for many manufacturers -- they're the ones footing the bill for warranty repairs, so I suspect they use the best available within reason.

I think you meant to say Amsoil better than Mobil 1....but I also believe you are quoting Amsoil tests!!! Don't believe it....

If the car has over 30k miles on it... no oil is going to matter at this point. Just change it every 3k if you use dino or 5k if you use synthetic.

Anything else is just waste of money on an old car.

I use to run Amsoil in the stang for a lil while. I was a seller but even at my price it was expensive. Run Mobil 1 or Royal Purple

Amsoil is the best by far for extended oil change intervals. Is it going to matter if you change the oil at 5000 if you use Amsoil vs. Mobil 1? No... but if you want the best possible protection for your engine Amsoil is the way to go. Don't use Mobil 1 5w-30 it's their worst grade, if you are going to use Mobil 1 use their 0w-20, 5w-20, 0w-30 or even 10w-30, don't use 5w-30!

Right now I have Amsoil ASM 0w-20 in both the 98 LSC and the 96 base. I'm going to keep on using the 0w-20 in the 96 but next oil change im going to use the Amsoil Series 3000 5w-30 in the 98 because of the new rear end setup I have. I change the oil every 6000 miles with the Amsoil.

What are you basing your claim that 5-30 is M1's worst grade? I haven't heard anything like this before and it's what I use in both of my Marks so it caught my attention. Anything more than anecdotal evidence would be appreciated, such as oil analysis results, standardized ASTM tests etc....

Oil preference threads such as this oft times get quite heated...many in other forums get locked and members get ousted....esp. when the topic of Amsoil gets going. As Amsoil does NOT subscribe to "MOST" ASTM testing, members (and to buy it direct, you MUST sign up as some kind of distributor) get defensive about the subject. The OTHER side are comprised of people that start the "Multi-level" pricing to get things going....

All I'm trying to say here is to please control yourselves. LOD likes to say that it's members can calmly discuss subjects such as this and not let it slide into a quagmire.

OK...I've had my say.....let the opinions fly!!

I post on the Bob Is The Oil Guy forums, if you hang around their used oil anaylis section you will find that the Mobil 1 5w-30, on a number of different vehicles and different oil change intervals typically provides the worst results among any other Mobil 1 grades. It is the most common oil grade they make and I think they probably cut corners on it, it is definitely a group 3 oil. If you want to use a 5w-30 by Mobil 1 get their SUV/Truck 5w-30 which has more anti wear additives.

quagmire!

Have any links? I would love to see what results people are having and compare them to my oil analysis results. I typically get the truck and suv due to the increased amount of moly and other anti wear additives.

What he said!

IMO unless you're running a 500+ HP high compression engine where the added "slipperyness" of the synthetic may give you an extra 8 HP it's just a waste of money. Just change you're oil every 3,000 and your engine will thank you for it.

I also have to laugh when they advertise these oils that can go for 10,000 between changes... these ads rely on suckers who don't realize that there's just as much dirt and other contaminants introduced to synthetic as well as dino over that kind of mileage. Dumbest thing you can do is to not change your oil every 3K to 5K miles no matter what kind it is.

BMW's schedule oil changes are 12-15k miles depending on the driver. BMW uses 5w30 BMW full synthetic oil, it is Castrol of Germany oil in a BMW bottle. I have used this oil in all my cars for the last 8 years (this Nov lol). Not sayin I let any of my cars go 15k before changing the oil.
