anybody use this oil??

If the car has over 30k miles on it... no oil is going to matter at this point. Just change it every 3k if you use dino or 5k if you use synthetic.

Anything else is just waste of money on an old car.

That is the oil companies brain washing you, what facts do you have to back up your statement? You don’t want to deal with evil twin on CF with a statement like that.

What facts are you using to back this up? Synthetic is better sure... the mark VIII engines usually last until 200k miles... most have around 100k miles or more on them right now... I think using $6-10 a quart oil in a car that is worth $500-$4000 is a total waste of money.

I'm not about to enter a discussion about how Mobil 1 (or other super expensive oil) is savior of the universe and is extending engine life to forever.

I can tell you that cab companies and other fleet orgs do not use the super expensive stuff and get 500k miles out of their cars... Granted they have the more reliable 4.6 SOHC and the fact that they rarely turn em on and off also extends the duty cycle.

BMW's schedule oil changes are 12-15k miles depending on the driver. BMW uses 5w30 BMW full synthetic oil, it is Castrol of Germany oil in a BMW bottle. I have used this oil in all my cars for the last 8 years (this Nov lol). Not sayin I let any of my cars go 15k before changing the oil.

Um yea and they recommend up to 20k miles per oil change. newer engines have tighter tolerances etc etc allowing them to extend the intervals... but many have sent their oil to blackstone labs for a test and came back shocked that after 10k miles the wear significantly increased.

The engines will last 100k miles or BMWs regular and extended warranty period. But after that the question remains open.

Synthetic oils are VASTLY superior on race tracks and extreme environments and will no doubt promote a healthy engine. But on a car that is 10 years old at this point... it is not going to keep everything together like snake oil.

My Mark has been on Mobil 1 since I bought it. When the supercharger was installed last year, it has been on Royal Purple XPR Racing oil. Does it help, or matter? I dunno - but the majority of highly modified performance/race cars I see at Aric's shop get Royal Purple oil and a Motorcraft filter.

I got redline in the vette, that is what my tuner uses. If i do the oil myself i just use mobil 1, that is what is in it from the factory. i have been using mobil 1 in the lincoln for years now.

I typically use Mobile 1 but I see Royal Purple is on sale at Murray's so I'm gonna give it a try. Its the regular Royal Purple, not the XPR though.

I use motorcraft synthetic blend oil in my White lincoln and change the oil every 5k miles (mostly highway miles). In my Supercharged mark I use Castrol full synthetic and change it once a year as I only put about 1k-2k miles a year.

Please explain this.
My 94 mark has 93,000 on it ( my 1st oil change) since I put it back together. I just changed to Mobile 1 5w-30 with their filter and now the start up rattle is gone ...... The oil or the filter??

Yes! Prob a combo of both. It prob had a organic oil in it before....maybe 5-20 as per Fords latest guidelines. A little thicker and slicker oil prob helped. What was the old filter. It may have been a cheapy withiout the required anti-drainback valve.

BTW, how sloppy will I get when changing the oil. I was just reading the procedure and it mentions moving cables/lines to avoid oil splashing. Is it bad? I'm ashamed to admit I've never changed the oil myself on my Mark, but I've changed the oil in my 5.0 all the time so I'm not really a rookie.

You won't get sloppy at all....or not anymore than any other car. Changing the filter looks impossible, but it isn't. To prevent leaking oil all over your undercarrage, do what I do. Use a hunk of aluminum foil (HD) and make a flow directer to your catch pan. Unscrew the filter a bit and let the oil drain, unscrew a little more etc. When it finally comes off, turn filter upside down to drain B4 you attempt to pull it out. Believe me, there IS a way to pull it out of that small hole!
