Anyone have a digital projection screen TV?

I am in the market for a new TV and ran into the Sony 50" LCD digital projections screen. Does anyone own this bad boy? I think it comes in 42" as well.

If you are not in a hurry to get a new one, I would hold off. With all of the tv stations getting ready to go hdtv soon, many people will start buying new tv's. This should drive the prices down. I suspect that most of them will be looking at plasma which will help bring the prices of projection tv's down even further.

check out the Samsung DLP projection(digital light processing)
comes in 3 sizes, less then 20" depth and around 100lbs.
better reviews than the Sony LCD

I have been hearing about broadcasters going to HDTV "soon" for the last few years. Most of the newer digital projection TVs are HDTV compatible, aren't they??

Here's a good article(s) on a guy's quest for the ultimate HDTV. TONS of info here. Read the whole thing. In the end, he bought and returned 5 TV's, ultimately settling on the Samsung DLP.

You are right, the tv's he is looking at are hdtv ready. I was not arguing that. My point was that there may be a heavy increase in tv purchases. most of the purchases will be plasma screens. This will cause the projection market to lower their prices to sell t.v.'s. I have not read your article yet, but if it has to do with the performance of plasma's, they are less than desirable. The thing is, most people will buy them anyway for the space savings and will rarely notice the defects. Now I am off to read the article you posted.

I got a good deal on a 47" Samsung Tantus this summer. The Tantus was the top o'the line model at the time.

- best price in its size and class
- best warranty out of the box than the competition
- narrowest profile of the competition (width)
- neat storage compartment in the bottom of the unit
- more bells and whistles than I really need
- great spec's
- no payments for 6 months (Doh!)

RE: Anyone have a digital projection screen TV?

Well I just got back from all the electronics stores in the area. i really have my heart set on the Samsung DLP model, but it is a little out of my league. I did get a chance to see that Sony 40" - man that thing is beautiful. But when they played the signal through their satellite (direct tv) system, it looked real grainy when there was a fast moving scene. Has anyone ever noticed this? The sales man in the store said that it is beacuse they are not using the right connections and that it would happen on any tv not connected correctly. Have any of you HDTV owners noticed this phenomenum?

Philips 60" is what I got....its the big boy in the store, and i'm not at all intimidated by this monster......I knew if I didn't get the big boy I would regret having the smaller one....

And I was right.

I'm selling my son's 19" goldstar. Comes with all the bells and whistles even a remote and rabbit ears. HAHAHA.

Actually, I love my HDTV -- Zenith 32 inch monitor. I have it in a small room but the picture quality is great. I was always afraid of the projection TV since you have to change the RGB bulbs in them every so often. I don't know if that is the case now.

RE: Anyone have a digital projection screen TV?

The bulbs were a problem when made out of plastic. When made out of glass there is no problem.

RE: Anyone have a digital projection screen TV?

I was looking at this sony 50" lcd screen that has a bulb that can be replaced by the user. There is a side door that you open and twist the bulb out. I don't know what the bulbs cost, but I am sure they get you like that!
