I can get them for resonably cheap and theyre cheaper to build than the IRS. Theyre also lighter weight I believe. ANyone know if a Mark7 solid 8.8 would bolt right up to the mark 8 brackets? What about that air ride between the cars? Thanks.

Apples and oranges.

I wouldn't say it's impossible, just probably not worth the extensive effort it would take.

i say unless your going for 8's in the 1/4 mile the stock set up will hold up fine. By the time you have put the money in bracing the bottom of the car and building mounts and moved the fuel tank some where you sould have a pretty stout stock set up. Stock the drive shaft runs over the gas tank because the stock "chunk" doesnt move like it would on a live axle. I have thought about it but i have talked my self out of it time and time again.

FWIW I know a T-bird IRS that runs in the 10s with ease.

The IRS is a better setup. Unless you're planning on running REALLY fast (ie: gutted car, cage, $20k in the motor, etc.) don't bother switching. The only reason people with IRS cobras switch to solid axles is that the IRS in the mustang is a poorly designed piece. If you want the car to handle, stick with the IRS.

Oh, and no, it won't come anywhere close to "bolting up". You'd have to design your own subframe and brackets, there would be extensive cutting and welding involved, and in the end, you'd be lucky if it ended up as a safe setup.

IF you have a streetable mark VIII the IRS will hold up fine. We planning on running high 9's with the IRS and upgraded axles.

No solid axle will just bolt up so we will be putting in a light 9" with ladder bar setup next season after the turbo and trans brake go on the car.

We should be back down to 3100lbs with the IRS deleted.
