anyone try the inexpensive slotted and drilled rotors

RE: anyone try the inexpensive slotted and drilled rotors

yeah i just bought a set but need to pay for them well i guess I'll be the geuinea pig on this one..... I'm still gonna have my stock ones turned just in case, if something goes wrong with them (god forbid an injury) i'm pretty sure they don't want a call from CHP and DOT. although they have crappy shipping feedback people seem pleased with them....but then again they may be kids looking for look's... ::uh:: we'll soon find out and i'll post back.

RE: anyone try the inexpensive slotted and drilled rotors

report back here guys... since i'm about to get the 13 inch conversion kit for 550... i'd rather just get rotors that finally work.

RE: anyone try the inexpensive slotted and drilled rotors

What have you tried and what was wrong with them Max ??

RE: anyone try the inexpensive slotted and drilled rotors

I know someone was real happy with the ones from Summit. I just wonder how much difference these less expensive ones are?? They are supposedly North American made.

RE: anyone try the inexpensive slotted and drilled rotors

I'm on my 3rd set of rotors.
set 1 Factory rotors were bad when i got the car 70k miles
Cheap set of rotors from Kragen 80k miles. (went bad after 10k)
OEM brembo rotors from tirerack 95k miles. (went bad after 8k)
I'm running some $70 quiet stops up front (raybestos).
Well anyways with all the money i've wasted on bad rotors... i would much rather just get a 13inch kit and be worry free for 50k miles.
My 2nd set of rotors was broken in using increasingly hard slowdown 30-5 40-5 60-5 etc and then driving the car and letting it cool
My 3rd set was a few gentle 30-5 stops. And then I barely touched the brakes for 500 miles. Then i slowly started braking normaly. I hate those damn brake vibrations, and there is nothing i can do to get rid of them besides buying larger brakes.
Oh yea forgot to mention. The whole buildup on rotors... yea i've had it i tried some panic stops... to remove the buildup and it made things WORSE the deposits got so bad that my brakes would squeal when not applied. After 3k miles that awful noise is gone now for the most part. I HATE THE MK8 brakes.

RE: anyone try the inexpensive slotted and drilled rotors

From what speed did you do your "panic stops" from though? I found I had to do them from ~100mph to clean them off to where the vibration went away.

RE: anyone try the inexpensive slotted and drilled rotors

i did them from 60-80mph.... but i have no idea where i would go 100mph and then pull a panic stop.

RE: anyone try the inexpensive slotted and drilled rotors

found someone with rotors from IRotors on ebay. He is very happy with them after about 20K miles. They are less money than the PowerStop rotors that seem to be good, but more money than the cheapest on ebay. Like a Mid-price set.
