Atlanta Dragway Test and Tune Fri, Sept 21

Going to try and go to the track this Friday night, as the next Friday night T&T is 10-12 at Atlanta Dragway. That is, if Aric has time in the next couple days to put the Mark back on the dyno to set the motor up for the new 3.1 pulley, and work on the shift points.

The thought is, the Mark needs to be dialed-in and running perfect and to have a solid baseline prior to starting the next phase of mods next month.

The next month is going to be crazy with the Mark, having the new Mustang hubs, brakes, rims, tires, and custom made rear sway bar installed. Add to that - installing the polished Cobra intake, and that purdy polished Accufab single blade throttle body, more custom intake tube work, and doing yet another dyno tune on the Mark before SSHS7 on November 3. :)

Not sure if Aric and Ryan will be at the track this time, but if their schedules will permit it, I am sure they will make every effort to be there to track tune the Mark. Anyone interested in joining in the fun, let me know... :)

Mike, make sure you get a really safe tune for the 3.1 pulley, 400-420rwhp is starting to push it for the stock bottom end, that's like 450rwhp for a 98 Cobra.

Emm yea I don't know if it is safe to run 2x the normal power on a 100k mile engine... But worse comes to worse the Mark VIII engines are cheap... or you can just grab a 03/04 cobra motor and swap in a 6 speed right?

I am going to the track for sure now. There is a 20% chance of rain, but I am going to take my chances. Here is the plan - I am going to meet Aric at his shop this Friday at 9am. We are then going to the dyno, and he is going to check everything out to make sure the pulley is matched with the tune and the A/F is also still good.

He will make sure it is safe. That is the main reason I am going through this added expense for a couple runs down the track, because it will need to be done all over again with the new intake and TB next month. :)

Aric has plans for Friday, so this T&T is going to be good practice for me to work on my launching, and cutting a good light for SSHS7 :)

Long day today - just got home from the track :) The dyno tune session this morning with Aric has the Mark at 401 rwhp and 318 rwtq now. I will post a video in the morning.

He spun it up to 7k today, and it keeps pulling strong all the way up making 10 psi of boost at 7k rpm.

The track still has me working hard trying to launch this thing, and what rear tire pressure is going to net the best result. I have it finally narrowed down to the 14-15 psi range for the DR's, as my best runs of the day were using that tire pressure.

The 60's were - 1.899, (3) in the 1.9's, and a smoke show 2.222.

Best run of the day - New personal best for the Mark:

60'..........1.905
330'.........5.313
1/8..........8.113
MPH.........88.07
1000'.......10.542
1/4.........12.585
MPH........110.65

The Mark's outside air temp said anywhere from 80-83 all evening.

lol, The Ying is - I have a bunch of groupies, like a fan club, at the track now in the stands cheering me on. They come to the pits between runs to inspect, and talk about the Mark. I have no idea who these people are.

The yang is - Never fails... After a racer has lost to the Mark, they always come over to me moaning what the (fill in the blank) is in that grandpa car thing :) Cracks me up.

Congratulations on your new times.
I think it is time for slicks and you might hit low 12's or high 11's in colder weather.
BTW: My car runs about .3-.5 quicker on slicks vs my 255 BFG DR

Gotta love it when your car has 'groupies'. LOL

You definitely have more than you can put to the asphalt. :D

That would drive me crazy. I just want to 'mat it' off the line - can't stand to peddle it off the line. That's the number one reason I got the Hoosiers. Problem is in your case, nothing short of slicks would get you up and going I'm thinking. Guess we'll see when you get the bling-bling wheels and new meats.

How many car lengths you gonna spot me at SSHS7?

Thanks guys. lol JP :) You are still the man in the bracket wars. How many you gonna give me? :) I would like to see you take the Mark for a pass or two during T&T, and let me know what you think.

I talked to Aric this morning about last night, and he is happy with the feedback I gave him about the tune. Something that I am still trying to understand.

If I can remember it all, he is commanding the shift at 6900, the actual shift happens at 7000-7100, and the rev limiter is at 7150. You can hear it hit the 7150 limiter in the 2nd pull on the video

From the drivers point of view - it is alot of drama all at once for the 1-2 and 2-3. The shift, and a millisecond pop off the rev limiter with the tach pegged is too much for my pea brain to orchestrate. I just cross my fingers, and keep my foot in it :)

I still have tire spin with the MT ET Streets. They are loud enough to hear them break loose at launch, 1-2 shift, and 2-3 shift.

Yep Serge, the goal has been reached in the power department. Focus now is getting that power to the pavement efficiently.

I've been watching too much PINKS on the speed channel. My best to your best, hmmm... I need 8 car lengths!

I don't know about taking your Mark down the strip. My luck something would break and I'd have to sign the Blue Flame over to you and catch a bus home. lol

Congradulations Mike, very nice runs in there. Glad to see you back on the road. Yes, you should keep a vigilant eye on Mr. Driller. I saw how he can launch that car. I was the last one out of the parking lot at the photo shoot, wished I had the camera on.

haha! Ying groupies?

Haah Don't worry about slinging a rod Mike, give it hell.. I'll tow you home if you smoke it, and Marvin can drive one of the Marks that is still standing.
