When my ballast started to go i found that the neon would light up when i started the car, then go off when the voltage dropped during the startup, and stay off. If i left autolamp off and didn't turn on the lights until after the car started, the neon would work. That didn't last long, it quit completely pretty quickly.
Dave, i think i still have a ballast and a light in the garage. I may have thrown it away, but i think it's stuck in a corner still. If you want it, you can have it.
