Auto Shipping?

Does anyone have an experience or maybe are involved in automotive shipping?

I'd be looking to possibly ship a car about 1600-1700 miles...

Thanks!

I've looked at the costs seriously a couple different occasions.

You really can't get cheaper than flying out and driving back.

Well, between my hatred for flying, and the fact that I can't really imagine buying a car I haven't been able to climb all over...
Either option sucks a little bit...

It will probably be a "fly out and drive across the country" kinda deal... :D

But, someone had mentioned shipping it, so I figured it was worth looking into...

It's cheaper to ship. I ship cars daily. MA to MI $350 for example. Distance doesn't matter, it's the load availability that counts. BTW MA sucks for shipping, no one wants to go there to pick up or deliver.

I've used DAS Shippers with excellent results. You can even track the truck on an internet site. The trick to shipping is to use someone with their own trucks, not a broker. Also, you can save $$ by shipping terminal to terminal instead of door to door. Check your insurance company, they can usually insure the car cheaper than the shipping company charges.

Shipping rates depend a whole lot on the shipping point. If you have an empty truck on the east coast, and no load, you are likely to take about anything to get you back to a good shipping point. Coming from the west to the east I have seen many rates of per mile at over one dollar.

I shipped both my cars in from southern states and the price wasn't to bad. I have a friend in the car business so I used his contact for the transport. Gave me a little edge for service. The Black car came in from Texas, arrived with dead battery and almost out of gas, leaky air bags, and on top of that arrived after getting thru a hurricane. It was covered with all kinds of corn stalks, dry grass and fodder. It really looked sad, but I knew its bones so I wasn't too worried. If you have a show room car you may want to ship it in an enclosed trailer. This wasn't so I didn't care, and it was cheaper to ship then to fly and drive to Houston.

Joe, I am disappointed that you would even consider not driving the car home. You are the official LOD King of The Road mascot! I think you even have a trophy from the last event you attended acknowledging you as the highest distance traveled road warrior you are.

Now you need to play the part, and start planning your adventure... You have hook-ups all over the US that are waiting for your call... lol  Where's your partner in crime Trix? She is going to be pissed at you if you leave her out of the loop and don't swing by the house and show her the new ride, regardless of where you buy the car... lol :)

Yes, yes, yes...
I know I normally drive across the county at the drop of a hat for almost no reason... :D

So... if an agreement has been made... it looks like there will be no non-BadSax shipping... :D

And yes, I've worked very hard at building my reputation for being an excellent house guest so that I can crash at peoples homes all over the country... :D :D :D

I couldn't agree more! I'm here, and the frige/liquor cabinet is waiting with open doors. ;)
