Bad Belt

Just to maybe help someone else; I was having all kinds of strange things happening w/ my Mark, Trac Lock errors, stalling, engine rev, well going about 80 on Highway 75, punched it to get around a guy going 65 in the fast lane, all of a sudden all the warning lights on the dash come on, I limped into the next exit, to find my belt had turned to dust; it had become so worn and loose the car was just not right, now w/ a new one, no issues, and a little more pep.
I should have checked when I saw the charging system was only putting out 13.5 volts, I just thought it normal, now at 14.4.

Last thing I would have every thought to check...never again.

RE: Bad Belt

Do you have a chip??

SOunds like what mine did when the pin was loose on an old superchip i used to have ...

RE: Bad Belt

Yea, a superchip I had re-burned from my old thunderbird; No the chips seated fine. Although it did ALOT MORE for the thunderbird than it does for the Mark VIII...very disapointed in it for the Mark.

RE: Bad Belt

Check inside the chip where the pins are molded into the plastic.

One pin i had would make intermittent contact with the board.

Yank the chip and see if car is normal.

Mine would miss surge and drop into 2nd gear on the freeway and CHECK TRACTION CONTROL would come right on..

I tossed that POS chip and went with a custom burned PCM and no more issues.

RE: Bad Belt

Uh, it sounds like he already fixed his problem by replacing a worn serpentine belt.

A bad alternator can give you the same symptoms.
