Bad day for the Mark

My water pump went out on my 94 last week so I ordered a new one from Max. I got it yesterday and as I installed it I snapped a bolt into the block. How the F' am I going to get that out? The other three are in so I'm hoping it will hold.
I also have a leak coming from the oil adaptor gasket. I removed the filter and the 3 bolts just fine. It wouldn't come out so I looked in the manual and saw that there are actually 4 bolts. I find the forth one and I end up stripping the bolt with a 12 point socket. I spray it with penetrating oil, let it sit for a while and then I get on it with a 6 point socket. I was surprised that it was grabbing quite well but I ended up stripping it with the 6 point as well, WTF! The socket was fully set into the bolt. So I went out and bought a set of stripped bolt removers. Hopefully this will do the deed with the overnight penetration. I don’t have an air compressor so I do it all by hand, damn I need to get one! : ( keep your fingers crossed.

Wow.............sounds too me like you don't know your own strength!

On the waterpump...take it back off and see if there is any of the bolt sticking out from the block. If so, I imagine you can work it out with a stud remover socket, or some heat(butane torch) and a pair of plyers.

Dude.....a 12 point on a 6 point bolt!? I imagine if its one that you didn't see, you probably had the socket cocked sideways. Penetrant isn't going to help you....the bolt is tight. The best step for you is to find a standard size socket(3/8") and hammer that puppy onto the rounded off bolt head. It WAS a 10mm, so the 3/8" socket should fit nice and snug. Make sure you keep the ratchet even and turn it super slow and pay attention to the "feel" of it, you'll know if its turning, or if you're rounding off the bolt more. If you can't get a ratchet on there(super crappy area to work) than get a universal or wobble adapter and a long extention.

I don't want to kick you while you're down, so just be careful dude....when a bolt feels tight, its probably tight. When a 12 point 10mm socket feels loose, its probably loose and isn't going to work too well.

I was suprised at the low torque rating on all the exterior bolts on these motors..

If I remember correct it something stupid like 14-16FTlbs...which made me nervous leaving bolts "that loose"..but.. better loose than broken!!!

The bolt will usually POP loose, since the steel likes to bond with the aluminum.

I used that stripped bolt remover tool and it worked like a charm! As far as the bolt that snapped in the block, I used my dremel and a cutting disc to create a grove for a flathead screwdriver to fit into. I got it out like if it was a screw. My first gen baby is up n' running. Thanks for your help guys
