I was on my way to boston and i think my transmission went. I have a 97 mark viii if i am on the high way and i step on it the rpms just goes up and if i stop then step on the gas the car revs up to 3,000 rpm then slam in to gear so i wanted to see what you guys think and what is the best way to repair it.another thing to is if i put it in 1st gear it just revs ups and if i put it in 2nd it just revms up but befor this all happen i had a problem if i press the gas down the rpms would not shoot up like they should only like here and there they did.Thank you guys for your help
 
It is probably blown but there are two things you can check. First thing, check the fluid. Is it nice and red? Does it smell burnt? Burnt=Bad, Dark Color=Bad. Another thing to check is the MLPS sensor, it's about a $25 part and can cause problems similar to what you described. It can also be called the neutral safety switch. It is VERY sensitive to alignment. If you put a new one on make sure you use a mirror and flashlight to make sure it is lined up properly. The slightest amount off will cause it to function improperly.

Is the fluid level where it supposed to be? It sounds like the pump is no longer pumping. If that's the case the damage is pretty much done. If you go for a used trans make sure you get a 98 or newer and with a short tailshaft. No sense in getting a used TC though. The cheap way on that would be a Marauder TC. The one you have now is damaged and if not contaminated so it's not good unless you have it opened and repaired.
 
Thank you people for your help. I am going to have this performance shop rebuild my tanny.I ask them if it will be alot stronger and they said yea there going to use performance parts and a shift kit. I will be dropping it off Saturday at Karl's East Coast Speed which is in RI. They do very good work and they work on alot of drag cars.

Do not let them put a Trans Go or anything like that in it. If they are not familiar with the Jmod step have them give me a call.
 
Ok i will make sure they do not. If they need to call you what the number and who do they ask for. Anything eles i should know?
