Bauman ReCal Pro Or Blue Oval Valve Body Kit

98MK8

Hello. I've been doing a little more research and was going to order my chip today from Blue Oval Chips when the guy I spoke with advised me that Blue Oval's Valve body kits were far superior to the Bauman ReCal pro kit. Although i've done ALOT of research no one has spoken about the Blue Oval Chips valve body kit for the 97-98 Mark VIII's. All I have heard is good things about the Bauman Recal Pro kit and i have already purchased this. The man at blue oval claims there's only performance and no reliability benefits with the Bauman, but he claims you get more reliability and performance with his valve body kits. Any one have any experience with his valve body kits? And more opinions/suggestions of any sort with either of these 2 products would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks for the help.

I will only make the following comments:

1. 'The man' at Blue Oval Chips knows his stuff.
2. My Baumann kit ROCKS(and so should the later version). :D

Sounds good, thanks, has you or anyone else ran a Bauman kit in their 97-98? And if they ran it without a chip and how well it worked without a chip. I plan on ordering a chip tomorrow from Blue Oval and thinkin about getting a SCT X-Cal 2, wondering how well they work with the Bauman as well, and if they're "the best"? Thanks again!

I recently bought the Blue Oval valve body kit. It came with the valve body, a new-style oil filter, and new 1-2 and 2-3 accumulator pistons. You just need a rachet with 8mm and 10mm heads, SNAP RING PLIERS, 12 quarts of Mercon 5, and some STP oil treatment to install everything. Don't forget the snap ring pliers. Trust me.

The install is easy; harder if you do it on a tire jack and cinderblocks in your driveway with no pliers and a slight slant. The kit works FANTASTICALLY; I still haven't torqued the bolts in right, but even with a high-rpm leak of some kind the shifts are very firm. If you don't chirp the tires on the 1-2 shift already, you will now. The shifts are very liveable when you aren't driving hard.

This is off topic but, Welcome Hero.

Please buy some jackstands. A tire jack and cinderblocks can be very dangerous.

We don't want to lose any new members.:)
