My black gear shifter knob broke. Has anyone had to replace this? If so, how difficult is this?
Thanks, Rich

RE: black gear shifter knob

What part broke? The lockout plunger? The OD switch?

RE: black gear shifter knob

Ahhh, thats a negative on the parts. i tried getting an entire new black leather shifter handle assembly with OD switch from dealer and no parts are available anymore. If you know of one, please send me mail because i'll buy from him instead of putting an old used one back in my car. (I uhh, had to do a little "creative cutting" with razor at SSHS 5 on mine.) had the entire center console out in the pits. lol I need the new handle but can't find black anywhere.

Why the whole shifter? Yes, the complete shifter assembly may very well be unavailable.

It has been over a year but I was able to buy just the O/D switch assembly. I know others who have purchased the O/D switch harness or the lockout button to fix their shifter woes. I purchased my OD switch at a local dealer and others have had success with obtaining these parts from online vendors such as Ford Parts HeadQuarters and FiveStar Ford. Of course there's always the junk yards too.

RE: black gear shifter knob

Sorry to come in on this with limited info, but I had the same problem with my lock-out button. Got in the car and no button in the shifter. Found it on the floor, pushed it back in and wrapped it in with tape and it worked OK. My son fixed it later but I was away at the time and didn't see him do it. He said he used a soldering iron on the button to reshape the broken back edge. Anyway it's been OK now for 5,000 m. Sorry can't be more detailed.

RE: black gear shifter knob

The button and wire are available as separate assemblies from the Lincoln dealer, cost me nearly $60. Replacement is very easy. The shifter was available the last time I went (a few months ago) as the 95+ only comes in one color, black. I found a black shifter in the junkyard for $5 as I did not want to pay the $116 the dealer wanted.
