black rims ?

Well, I am a little bored and thinking too much ...

anyways, any recommendations for black rims, I don't care about the actual design or what not, I'd like them to be 17x9, maybe 18x9 if the price is right. I remember seing some of them on here, but it was too long ago. Since the car is supposed to go real "BAD" next season, I want it to look tough. Any ideas ?

RE: black rims ?

I think black rims only look good on certain cars (hint: not ours) so I'd pass on that. If you do decide to do it, think of making the lip polished. Speaking more generally, I think black rims on a red car is a no-no.

RE: black rims ?

This is totally different then what you are going for but my winter rims are black. I painted them black because the finish looked like crap!! It's alright looking but definately not my favorite. The polished 17x9's are great, not too flashy but a little bling bling.

RE: black rims ?

Since I'm shooting for an 11 sec mark, I think I can get away with black wheels, even on semi-red car. }( }( }(

It doesn't look too bad, hmm, actually a set of black octastarts would work for me I think. But the octastar fans would hang me dry ...

RE: black rims ?

True, since your car is "semi-red" lol you can pull it off better. Mine is just black on black. It's too much black, especially now that my chrome in the front and back is painted.

On a side note..............11 sec? I see you have some winter projects planned =) Wish I had the cash this year for something big. ;(

You can have your current wheels powder coated for about $35 each if you can find a local place to do it.

RE: black rims ?

$35 is pretty cheap, I'd spend a bit more to make sure I get the best job possible. Besides that, the problem with our stock wheels is that they don't allow 13" rotors, so they are kinda useless for some people. Jeremi will probably upgrade his brake system (if he hasn't all ready).

RE: black rims ?

13" brakes weigh more and slow you down in more ways than one.

i'd stick with a set of stockers. it's a lot more fun to really surprise people. You could always have them widened when you need more tire. Go for some octastars or some directionals.

RE: black rims ?

13" brakes are tempting, but I am all for STOCK rims all the way. Nothing like the sleeper effect. I can get them widened no problem, but there aren't any street tires bigger than 255 in 16"

I'll look into powdercoating. But I think Octastars would look better black than the 10 spoke directionals.

Black rims on a red car will look good, remember the Mark VII LSC SE
[/div]

Yeah, that did look good now that you mention it. But then again, that was from the factory, so it gave it a different effect in my opinion. Plus they were BBS rims. BBS rims look good any which way, whether they are gold, silver, chrome, blacked out, polished lip, whatever...

RE: black rims ?

I dig the 18" Bullitt's with the black spokes....but I have a black car, so thats a different story.

There used to be a pic of a member's car, taken from down low, behind the left rear tail light. It was a black gen 1, and had black wheels...they actually looked like black American racing wagons(you know, the ones that are usually white, with two small red pinstripes on the bead lip).

Also, Jeremi...that guy "pantera" was selling his gen 2 on the other site... he had Black Conra R's I think...looked hot.

But on a red Gen 1....hmmmm... best to do a photo shop first.

Like Sean did when he first bought his 96... he wanted to paint the grill/eyebrow red to match his car... then he saw a pic of it "shopped"....changed his mind..(right Sean???)

RE: black rims ?

Yeah, I don't my grill body color anymore, just not the same thing as the Blacked out look... anyways, per Craig's suggestion, here you are:

This, I am a big fan of. It is the bigger lip and wheel size that sets it off. Or maybe because the car is a very dark color.

But this, I do not like. Maybe cause the wheel is too small? Or maybe they just don't look good in black...

I also chopped Jeremi's car (painted directionals) and it looked really bad. Nor did I like blacked out Bullit style.

RE: black rims ?

In order for me to use photoshop and make it look good, I need to have a good pic of those wheels actually ON a car. It works better with the shadows and brakes.
