Not really a PC question, but sort of related...

I was recently issued a Blackberry at work - a new Blackberry 8300 "Curve" smartphone .

I'm a gadget guy but was wondering if anyone had any tips/comments on the device being used for more than a phone and email service? I've used a Palm PDA since their inception and currently use a Tungsten T5.

Seems the Palm and RIM technologies butt heads and do not play well with each other. I've grown fond over the years with the Palm's applications but can't seem to migrate much of anything to the Blackberry - even basic contact info. The best I was able to do was export a CSV file from the Palm Desktop and then import it to Outlook Express address book which then syncs with the Blackberry.

So far the Blackberry seems to do well as a phone and email device, but I was expecting more.

Anyone have any experience to share?

I use a Treo 755 and have a fond if not advanced understanding of Palm OS phones and one of the guys on my forums is a relative BB expert, if you want to get info I can send you to him, he would be more than willing to help. I wouldn't know how to do what you want but I can ask him or we could work together to figure it out

After the weekend exporing the Blackberry world, I think it'll live alongside the Palm. I don't think I could ever do without the Palm Notes and there's a couple apps I use that are only available with the Palm.

All that being said, I'd still like to migrate the calendar... I think.

Blackberry - issued from work... Not addicted yet... Have a Bluetooth earpiece that works well for teleconferences.

Update... the Palm data was exported in a roundabout way by exporting to Outlook from the Palm and then updating the Blackberry via a conduit to Outlook.

I still use the Palm in addtion to the BlackBerry.

I use viigo newsfeeder to get newsfeeds and RSS feeds of the message board. It took some tweaking of the RSS settings.

Afer playing around with the RSS feeds, I discovered the limit was set to 10 which meant that many threads were not listed. Add to that the fact the RSS feeds to the site were hogging the newest spots, and you get the picture.

To fix all this I set the RSS limit to 50 threads(instead of 10) from the past 3 days(instead of 30) and then excluded the jokes forum and others by using the forumids qualifier in the RSS URL...

:D

I have a BlueTooth earpiece but find it awkward. Also I've added a keyfob sized GPS receiver that links to the BlackBerry via BlueTooth. Using the BB maps app, I can now find where I am and how to get to anywhere without TomTom or my laptop.

I have the BB 8830. Not an exciting phone by any means when compared to some of the new slim, flashy devices on the market.... but it certainly ranks amongst the most powerful with the built-in tools combined with the resources and applications available in the community (try Crackberry.)

I had an iPhone for all of 2 days and returned it. I couldn't cope with pecking out e-mails on that touchscreen. Daddy needs tactile feedback! :)

Crackberry is where I got the GPS keyfob. It is a good resource site on the BlackBerry.

lol

I have a phone..and a PC.. they aren't related.

I haven't really found any device that does both well.
either the pc version of it sucks or the phone part of it sucks because it's a cool little pc.

with that said...
dont expect a whole lot from the palm industry overall.. I mean really.

IF a pc COULD be that small and operate correctly do you think PC's wouldn't already be that small?

sorry.. just an opinion!
