Blinker problem

Hey guys, I seem to be having a problem with my rear passenger side blinker. I checked/replaced the bulbs and it still does not function. I thought it might be the flasher relay so I went out and bought one but I can't seem to find where it is on my car. It's a 95' LSC hopefully someone here knows the location of this relay so I can try swapping it out.

According to the manual, the electronic flasher is behind RH side of instrument panel, to the right of the radio.

its behind the glove box, open the glove box, release the string on the right side of it, and then push in the plastic tabs on the sides of the glove box so you can open it all the way to the floor, then look in the hole to the far left almost behind the console where it meets the bottom of the dash, you will see it, you will also hear it clicking if the flashers are on. it looks like your typical 5 prong black square relay.

I think they moved that thing around in various years.

Tiffs 94 makes the "clicking noise" to the right of the radio as you mentioned.
On my 95 the clicking noise comes from the drivers side of the dash.

If I'm driving tiffs car I cant hear the relay clicking and often leave the blinker ON..and tiff says blinker,Blinker,BLINKER!!!!

When I'm in my car, I can hear in and dont leave the blinker running like a "NIMWIT"...

I guess Lincoln moved it, because grandpa couldn't hear it over on the right side of the radio..HAHA

I found it under the dash on the drivers side mounted to the inside near the door. It was 3 pronged too so I tried the relay the autozone guys gave me and it didn't work right. The rear right blinker did not work but the relay was flashing as if it was working fine. I think the relay they game me may have been the wrong kind as it said "for imports" on the package.

As it stands, the regular lights come on but it does not light up for the brake or blinker. I checked all the wires in the trunk and they seem fine. One of the wires was cut to splice in a trailer connector so I took the liberty of reconnecting the wire. I traced my way back through the loom and all the wires seem intact as far as the trunk goes. All fuses are ok as well. This really has me stumped. I am gonna call a Ford dealer tomorrow to see if they can give me any tips, if not i'll probably end up having to tow the car over there to have them check it out.

Anyone have any ideas as to what could be wrong? If there's something minor i'm missing i'd rather handle it myself. It just sucks to have this thing 99% functional and the only reason I can't drive it is because of a stupid tail light. If at all possible i'd like to have the car ready to be inspected by the end of the weekend(even if I have to run a new wire and connect the blinker directly).

Thanks for all the help so far guys and hopefully someone can help figure it out before I get dragged into the dealer rout.

Very odd.

After looking at the schematics, if any signals flash, the flasher should be good. Further, if one brake lamp and/or the 3rd brake lamp functions, the brake on/off switch should be good.

That leaves it to the specific wiring or lamp socket. Since there is a common ground for the park lamp and brake/signal lamp, if the park lamp lights, the ground is good.

Against the extreme odds of a bad resistance wire or harness connector, I come back to a contact set in the infamous multifunction switch.

So I would start by testing the multi-function switch.

Since we are concentrating on the right rear circuit that would be circuit terminals 44(LB) and 5(O/LB) on the multifunction switch. With the hazard switch off and the turn switch to turn right, a good switch will indicate a closed circuit.

If you have an EVTM, it details the component testing for the multi-function switch.

I'll check the multifunction switch then. Thanks for the input. I read that the multifunction switch is a somewhat common problem on Lincolns. Now that I know the pin numbers(and just found out what it is) I should be able to test it early tomorrow morning. Hopefully that is the problem. Thanks again.

This should help....

I don't know if this helps or not but, I had a blinker problem once. I cycled the hazard flasher button on and off a few times and it's been working fine ever since.

I went out and bought one of those multifunction switches yesterday. Gonna work on it today. Driller, thanks for that diagram. Looking at that it seems possible that the multifunction switch could be bad. I'm thinking pin 5 might be bad on my unit(it seems to go to the passenger side rear bulb) and if that is the culprit then I would not get brake or turn signal lights from what I can tell. I'm gonna head to my mothers house to work on the car in a bit so i'll check back in later. Thanks again for all the help guys.

Well it wasn't the multifunction switch. I pulled out my multi-meter and checked the voltage at every connector I could find in the trunk. Seems it was working fine from the front of the car but somewhere along the line it wasn't making it to the rear of the car. So I decided to run a new wire to the trunk for the blinker and it works perfect now.

Last problem is the alarm keeps going off but I think it may be the trunk switch causing the problem there. I don't get a trunk open message on the dash but it doesn't look like it closes all the way so I think it may be barely touching. I'll look into it sometime this week, at least the car itself is fully functional and I can get it back on the road this week. Thanks again for all the help.

I'm having a similar problem only its the left blinker. Supposedly my left side brake light is out as well. I want to fix it myself hope the job isn't to difficult.

Well if you want to skip all the hassle I went through, check the bulb first then test the voltage at the tail light and at the multifunction switch(they are the same color wires, light green/orange stripe, so its pretty easy to match up) with the brake pressed and not pressed. If you have voltage at the switch and not at the tail light then your wire is toast like mine was and you'll need to run a new wire. Very simple just connect point A to point B.

If you have no voltage at the multifunction switch then I would check that as driller described earlier(when the turn signal is to the left you should have closed circuit between pins 44 and 9) if its not that then its your flasher relay or a short. You do not want to go searching for a short.

All you need is a simple multimeter from radioshack will only run you a couple of bucks but will help alot in the long run if you ever have any electrical problems.

If left side brake light is out also, look for bad bulbs first...just swap with right side - or check with meter.
