I bought a 94 Town Car with 117K. When I sit at a stop light and then accelerate, a big cloud of blue smoke will billow from the tailpipe.:B Now I am not sure what is happening but it is not a good thing.::nono::

I have fresh oil.
I replaced the PCV valve
It will not smoke on a cold start.

I am confused.......::wtf::

Any fellow T/C owners experience this problem?

Thanks for the help...:D

RE: Blue Smoke

Blue Smoke means you're burning oil. Do you need to add oil between oil changes??? If you need to add more than 2 to 3 quarts your engine might be on its way out. Since Oil is sipping past the piston rings.

RE: Blue Smoke

I have had this gem for about a week so I am not sure how much I will need to add. Low milage for a T/C I am surprised.

Thanks for the info.

RE: Blue Smoke

Well I would not say that 117k miles is low milage.
Under 60k would be low milage. The 94 T/C does have the 4.6 SOHC which is probably the most reliable engines ford makes. But since you stated that you have just purchased the vehicle. You really don't know if it was maintained the way it was supposed to be and if the owner didn't abuse car. Also there is always the possibility of a factory defect. The 4.6 SOHC can and does go for up and in excess of 300k miles.

RE: Blue Smoke

And who's to say that the odo wasn't rolled back or that the engine was maintained properly.

I'd start with a compression and a leak-down test.

RE: Blue Smoke

I started with a car fax report and this is a one owner car and from the appearence, it holds water. Not to mention the service records from the dealership oil/tran and a bunch of other work. So I am pretty confident with the auto.
I will take your advice and do a compresion test.

Thanks

RE: Blue Smoke

UPDATE:

I sent the car to the shop so they can research and find out the "real" issue. I had a check engine light flicker on and off. So they read the code and found a 538c, which is a EGG problem. They tested the EGR and it was fine.
The recommended repair is to remove Plenum and scape the carbon buildup and replace the lines going to the DPS. They are going to charge me $280 for this and includes all labor and parts. This is the root casue for the the puffs of blue smoke.

Interesting..... Never know how a car feels until you take its temp.

RE: Blue Smoke

Interesting! Well that would usually cause Grey smoke... But hey you never know i guess... Let us know how it goes. Blue smoke 9/10 means oil. Grey smoke= Carbon Buildup

RE: Blue Smoke

They did the work and it cured a lot of the smoke but the valve seals are on their way out. Stinks that this is such a common problem.

I do not get it. This is the smoothest running car I have ever owned and it has this problem. You can never tell by looking and driving. What a shame........::uh::
