Broken Door Handle

Help I have read on here but can not find solutions to a broken door handle exterior 1998 Mark8 can anyone tell me about their experiences and is this something I can still get from 5Star Ford before I call them? Color is red does it have to be painted or does it come in the proper colors? Is this a body shop issue or can I fix it myself any help would do.........

I had that happen to me on my 96LSC.
I had my father-in-law get the handle since he is a Ford Body Man in Vegas. It has to be painted so he painted it for me as well. I had a body shop here put it in for $30. Lots of guys do it themselves but for $30 I had someone else do it.

This happens a lot, it happened to me a few years ago. I took it to a body shop because I did not have the time to try and do it my self. It does not come painted. Guys who do it themselves says it takes a lot of time and it can be tedious, you have to take the door panel off and work with a few small parts.

It happened to my 95 shortly after I bought it in 97 on the drivers side. Warranty took care of it. This is one of the many generic problems that these cars have. I open the door gently now.

I found my replacement handle at www.car-part.com for $25. It was red so I had to paint it silver. The installation was tedious and if you're easily frustrated you should get someone else to install it. Instructions for removal of the interior door panel are posted on this site somewhere. Good luck!
