logres where did you find a firewall router for 30 at?
[/div]

Best Buy has several brands in that price range. I was hit with some vicious spyware a couple weeks ago. It managed to bypass the firewall by going through the AIM portal. These hackers are getting clever. It managed to install some mean stuff, but I was able to setup my firewall to block the URLs. The key is to pull up their certificates. If you block those, they can't get in at all. But I digress...

RE: Browser Hijack

This is what I do and it works every time.

1. Most importantly, make sure you anti-virus is up to date. If you don;t think so run it and reboot. Then run it again and again, make sure that there aren't any new updates out there. They will not release them al at once. Sometimes you progressively get them.

2. Go to microsoft's web site and make sure that you have all the updates for your operating system. Reboot if necessary.

3. Go back to you anti-virus and check for new virus definitions. (you never know) Reboot...

4. Do a full system virus scan. Post what the system scan finds here. Just the names, especially if it couldn't fix or quarantine them.

3. Go into the control panel and go to add/remove programs and try to unistall whatever program you do not know. Be careful not to install any hotfixes and if you are not sure about something post the name of it here and we can try to figure out what it is.

4. Go and download adware 6.0, spybot search and destroy and hijackthis... Make sure you update all of them...

5. Then place hijack this in its own folder and run it. Read each line and it will tell you a little about what it is... look carefully. Check to see if any of them have names of the recently removed programs.

6. Then run spybot and remove everything in there.

7. Then run adware, read through the lines and look for the ones that have names in common with the files you deleted.

8. Reboot the machine and check to see if there are any new updates for your virus definitions. If so do another full system scan.

9. Then run hijack this and check to see if any of the deleted lines have reappeard. If so click them and click the fix now to remove them.

10. Run adarare again and check for those pesky lines...

You will have to repeat this process until you get everything out of there. If you can post screen shots by pressing alt and print screen (next to f12) and paste to word or something. I can take a look at them..

Worst case scenario, box up your machine and mail it to me - LOL!

RE: Browser Hijack

Thanks Christo! That sounds like a job for over the weekend. I'll give it another shot.
